As would I, and thanks Flash for the insight about the filter length.

Gotta love this forum!

Fleetwood, which Canton unit did you get? I am not sure if the 4" or the 6.25" is best for the 968. See my earlier post in this thread for the links to the JEGS website.

I ordered the 4.25 off Flash's previous recommendation, but the model with the bolt on top.

Havent installed it yet -- once I do, I'll report back on how it went.

i just put one of those into another car a couple of weeks ago. should be easier to change than the previous model, but haven't done it yet.

I have the Canton with the bolt top. Changing the cartridge is a snap.

Here is the drain valve:

I think if you visit the Fumoto site they might have options like straight drain or one with a 90 degree turn, etc.One added bonus with this valve is if you accidentally over fill the oil somehow, you can take out a small amount without having the drain everything.

These look brilliant, but does anyone have one on their 968 to confirm whether they physically fit? Although Pelican lists one for the 944/968, the Fumoto website only lists the 944 and the UK dealer says that there is no adapter to fit the recessed sump plug hole on the M44 engine.

Good question. I bought one a few years ago, although not from Pelican, and it didn't fit - it stuck out too far.

I had the straight drain valve instead of the L that you have pictured on a previous 968 and it made oil changes quick, easy, and clean. Got it from http://www.performanceproducts.com/

i've seen a shot of one on somebody's car here. could be dave's. so, clearly there is one that fits. for me, it's all about whether or not it leaves a drop of oil. that would be a non starter for me. if it's clean, and i opt not to use the drain plug sender for oil temp, this is a no brainer. i've had them before on race cars. they indeed make things very quick and easy, and at almost no cost.

p.s. - i also like the idea of not having to go fishing for the danged aluminum sealing washer

I don't see a straight drain valve on the performance products site. They all appear to be the 90 degree units. Wonder if these work?

yeah - that's my concern. is it indexed properly, so that it points down, without leaking?

NO FREAKING KIDDING! nothing like sloshing around in 7 quarts of possibly very hot oil to get that damn piece

lol - yeah - it's not like i ever reuse it. i have a bag full of them. it's just that if i don't get it out of there, it makes a mess when i go to pour out the oil, as it gets hung up in the funnel.

Mine doesn't leak and it's the Fumoto. the only thing I had to do though was double up on the washer thickness and grind a bit of the brass away as the oil pan has a tiny bulge that hits just as you reach the tightening turns.

Sorry I could have sworn I got it from them; maybe they don't carry them anymore. I still have the old packaging and maybe even a picture of one installed in a parts bin; I'll take a look after work tonight.

That's promising Is there still plenty of thread left to tighten down on with the extra washer? Any danger of weakening the housing of the valve by grinding some away to clear the bulge?

Forgive this newbie question, but will any old copper/aluminium washer do the job here (for sealing the standard plug or spacing out the valve)? I've been spoilt by the oil change kits you get for Beetles which give you all the washers!

Thanks,

Michael

I'm sure I replied to this Oh well! The UK site says it's a M20x1.5 thread, which that list doesn't include
