Timing belt lubed with oil?
#1

<p class="" style="font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color:rgb(20,41,134);">What is the recommended replacement interval for the timing belt on the turbocharged three cylinder engine available in the new Ford Fiesta?

A. 60,000 miles (100,000 km) or five years

B. 120,000 miles (200,000 km) or ten years

Answer: C. (The timing belt is inside the engine, lubricated with oil and designed to last for the life of the engine.)

<p class="" style="font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color:rgb(20,41,134);">

<p class="" style="font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color:rgb(20,41,134);"> I found this on the Rock Auto news letter I receive.

I found it quite strange. First that the belt would be inside the engine and second that it is oil bathed.

I thought oil would degrade a rubber belt as belts and peto products don't mix.

Any thoughts?

As Spock said, when all that the answer cannot be is removed, what remains must include the truth.  One can only assume that either 1) Ford made a mistake, or 2) they did not.

very interesting ( re the oil thing, not the lifetime assertion - a lot of manufacturers are claiming technology advances now allow lifetime this or that ; timing bets , transmission or even engine oil , and various other previously unthinkable things requiring change ..)  so if it's bathed in oil, i presume they have a bracket or brackets which keeps the belt from slipping off the teeth or the space tolerances are so small it can't move even a hair in any direction off of its track.. ?

no clue how oil and rubber mix, i imagine it depends on the composite they use in that rubber.  not all rubbers are created equal  ( ok, no smart-ass comments here about condoms, lol )
