NEW FIXED HEADLIGHT CONVERSION IDEA?

what makes you say that? - i see nothing that makes me think it is NA, and a claim that seems impossible NA

i can't see the innards of the plenum - the turbo could be underneath with the plumbing at the bottom of the plenum - with no huge intake manifold there, it would leave plenty of room

i'm seriously doubting 340 NA - 320 is the highest i've ever heard of - i have not seen documentation on it, and that motor was would up tighter than a 2 dollar watch, and good for about 35 hours - 340 is an awfully big jump

also, you'd think we would have heard of it by now

something is amiss for sure

It's a NA car. It is also a very old link on Konstantin's site. I have no idea if the claimed HP is valid, but it appears the engine has had some serious work done. ITB's, dry sumped, variocam delete, who know what else.

I dont see anything that says Turbo to me. i dont see any turbo, no plumbing, no intercooler.

as for making 340. It is unlikely, but plausible with the right amount of work. The lifespan of the motor may not be long, but not many race motors have a long lifespan and require rebuilding constantly.

As for hearing of it by now.....Most people on this sight or 968.net have never heard of the Big Cams some people make for these cars, or the stroker kits, or the big bore kits. But they exist.

I dont know if im coming off as being argumentative...that is not my intent.

I doubt this car has 340HP. I do believe its possible with the right amount of work, time & money invested. I dont doubt this car is making over 300HP.

no worries

i don't see it either, but that doesn't mean it isn't there - we don't have any shots that show the underside

by the way, the factory intercooler isn't visible either

i've spoken to some of the guys who have built the big bores and big cams - nobody ever got anywhere near 340 - sure 300 - that's pretty much a no brainer

this is one where they need to show charts if they want anybody to believe those kinds of claims
i also noticed that the 993 lights stick up above the fender like the other similar installation i've seen
It isn't apparent in the picture attached to smokiemon's post, but from the images in the link, Flash is right, the headlights do stick up noticeably from the tops of the fenders. While I like the look of the conversion better than the stock pop-ups, I think the way these lights stick up would bug me, too, especially after forking over the two years of Harvard tuition it would probably cost to get this done. Nobody has come close to matching Arktech's result, in my book.

not yet - but that's what you get when you make entirely new fenders like they did

Yep - thus the three (did I say two? I meant three..) years Harvard tuition. They are gorgeous, though...

yup - if they didn't affect the front end rigidity, as fenders do in all unibody cars, i would have jumped on them - i just didn't want to start bracing up the whole front end with new tubes

Anybody seen this?

http://www.v-zweeden.com/product_info.php?...products_id=328

Has fiberglass fenders which could easily be modified to fit the 993 headlights.

They also have a CF Turbo S rear spoiler for 500Euro.

Yes I've seen them last summer when I visited them. But I prefer metal parts. I'm not so in to the fiberglass panels for a roadcar. But for a racingcar the parts are fine and have a good quality.

the lights on that purple car stick up quite a bit above the fender line - to me it looks like the car is about to sneeze, or has a head cold - he did rework the steel to do it though

i agree about fiberglass - it would require a lot of frame restructuring to make up for the chassis rigidity lost - on a unibody car, the fenders do quite a bit toward holdig hte shape of the front frame structure - i plan to do a full tilt front end on the race car, but there will be a space tube frame up front

So I wonder what Pete has up his sleeve (see his post from 7/31)...

Doing this mod correctly sounds extremely difficult and complex. To get the headlights flush with the fenders, like Arktech did, you'd pretty much have to do the fenders in fiberglass or carbon fiber. But then you'd have to reinforce the front end to make up for the lost rigidity, which adds a great deal of complexity to the design, not to mention the installation. I don't see how this mod could be done for less than $10K, when you add up the cost of the creation of the mold, the fabrication of the fenders, the required reinforcements, the 993 headlights, the cost of painting, and finally the installation. And with the need to reinforce the fenders, would there really be that much weight savings?

I love the look of the fixed headlights (when they're done right, using 993 lights without sticking up above the fenders), as I've always thought the 968's pop-ups look dorky, and make an otherwise beautiful car look dated, but I just don't see how there could ever be a market for this conversion, given its likely cost.
