looking for interest in Fixed head light mod...
#1

So I have been working with Arktech the racing team to take a sponsorship roll on the board. In doing so we would have special pricing on their entire line of 968 products. They have a new site which will be released soon. I am getting sent pictures of all of the products sometime in the next few days.

Here is my question who would be interested in a set of front 993 headlight fenders for the 968? What if they would cost under $1300 for the pair. Shipping has not been researched but I am thinking possibly another $300. They had these advertised on their web site for around $3000+

We have been talking about this mod for years... Now who is ready to pull the trigger.

Just the fenders...

what would they be made of? how is the fit? we would need some close up shots for sure, including ones of the mounting

also, i would like to see the adjustment mechanisms for the headlights

1300 for the pair is not the problem for me

if the fit and finish is identical to stock, and the headlights are fully adjustable, then i am interested - if the fit and finish is like GT racing, or the headlights are not adjustable, then i am not

is that better?

Erik,

Any possibility of them offering the aero rockers too? Not sure I can do the fenders right now - love the look though - fit and finish would be critical.

Thanks Sam

I like the original lights. They provide excellent light output. I am not interested in spending several thousand dollars to replace them.

I have never heard a negative comment about the pop up lights. Many people (typically Porsche owners or admirers) have asked to see them operate.

EEZATOY Price list says $899

The reason I don't want a bunch of questions is that I don't have the answers yet. I am a pretty smart guy and I have a list of my own questions when it get's to that point they will all be answered. If there is not enough interest in a group buy Q&A are useless and just a waste of time. I am only guage the interest at a $1300-1500 starting point. I beleive they use the 993 Headling mounting hardware from my correspondance. So yes they are adjustable the 993 lights adjust either manually or self adjust (I think) this is from memory when I had a pair. You can also get HID lights from Porsche as they were an option on the 993.

I really like the look and if my car needed a front end repair, I might consider this (subject to Flash's criteria.) I can't see myself doing it to an unblemished car.

i would love to elimiate the gad awful weight, and dumping the failure potentials of the mechanincals, and eliminating the fragile plastic pieces is a big plus for me

however, fit and finish are everything, as is adjustability - my car is very low, and adjusting the headlights is a must

the cost is about the same as stock fenders - very cheap - that part is a no brainer - i wonder what the remaining cost (lights and such) is

Depends junk salvage yard or New. There is a brnad new set on ebay right now for $500. I bought all the parts at one point to do the mod. But ended up not doing it because I did not want to tear up the fender. I think I was into the hardware at $800 all new from Porsche. There are so many wrecked 993's out there that you probably could get the parts for less then half that price.

i would definitely buy new

so, do i understand that it uses the 993 mounting assembly and all that, and it is part of the 800? so, it should be fully adjustable just like the 993? that is encouraging - starting to make sense for sure

now if we could just see the fit and finish, this could be very cool

FWIW, just a view from the other side of the table...

I like my 968 to be ALL 968. I thought a K&N Filter was a huge modification. As time goes on and parts become harder to find I will probably use a program like RS Barn to upgrade mechanically.

But I love the way she looks just fine <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

nothing wrong with that - when i was running mgbs, i had a councours perfect car, a full on race car, a hopped up street one, and a slightly modified street one - i loved them all - all for different reasons

some of us are just looking at the 968 as a platform (at least i am) there are a lot of areas where the design or implentation can be dramatically improved from a performance standpoint - i knew from the day i bought mine that i would be tearing it apart - that's fine for me - it's horrendous to somebody else - that's cool too

that's why baskin robbins has 31 flavours

I'm in for the Mod. Personally, I'd like to eliminate the pop-ups and go fixed on my baby. Litronic makes it that much nicer. I hate to use the word but I "assume" someone will have the hardware and instrcuions for the headlamp install and all we have to do is purchase the fender and 993 headlights?

looking forward to seeing close up shots of the bolt areas, hood to fender gaps, and things like that - if the fit is good i might be in

heck, i just got through getting the last bits of dust out of my door hinges, and i'm not looking to lose points for ill fitting fenders (i still can't believe they took off points for dust in my hinges) - i want at least another best in class trophy, and hopefully best in show (i was very close the last outing) - i'm gonna give her one more try before i do any more major body mods

i don't relish the idea of repainting the front end of the car again, but to get flush non litronic lights, maybe............

just don't tell my other half
