968 Sport badge
#61

i have ridden in 968s with full manual seats. they are out there, but rare, but often sport seats. 944 seats came in the early 968s, and 993 seats in the later ones. you should be able to find a manual set.

Only the CS (with M381 & M382) and Sport models did have manual seats. All others at least had power height adjustment for all markets. In Europe it is quite easy to locate a set of the former but they were only produced in black full cloth.

Flash, could it be that the 968 you are referring to had seats from a 944 fitted?

i've sat in a couple of them. i sat in one that had CS seats ordered for it by the original owner. indeed black cloth on that one. one other was sport seats, cashmere. another were regular seats, black. no idea if those were original or not.

that being said options 381 and 382 were available, as was 383 and 387. they may or may not have been done in germany. a number of cars had them added at the landing port, or by the dealer at sale, as a part of the original sale. this would not show up in the database though.

Cashmere is particularly interesting since that color was never offered on the 944. M383 and M387 should have power height adjustment.

i don't know if the sport seat car was original or not. i do know that it was a different option code to have seats with height adjustment versus not, in the same style seat.

like i said, there were quite a few cars that saw changes due to special order stuff, that all happened after the car left germany. i've seen complete interior changes, and even one complete color change. some of the changes happened on the east coast. some of them at the dealership. many were on the original paperwork, but the porsche database does not reflect anything that did not originate in germany. they were doing just about anything to sell these cars. they were desperate, especially toward the end.

All Porsche models in the u.s. can be ordered with special wishes options and "Delete" Options. Example...Sunroof was standard equipment on U.S Spec 968's....however, there are a number of cars without a sunroof. Similar to ordering your car with a rear badge delete. A 968 exists here that was also ordered with CS Seats & Turbo S front and rear spoiler's as special wishes options...Same car is also a sunroof delete car iirc. My first 944 8V was also a special wishes car...Came with M030 Suspension, however the sway bars were 951 Clubsport Sway bars (rear is thicker then a 968 M030 bar), LSD, Sport Seats, and ABS from a Turbo (ABS was not an option on 8V 944's).

yeah - it's a LOT more common than some people think. that's why i look at the "holy database" as relatively worthless for definitive information. it seems like every time i turn around i find another exception to the database. heck, i almost bought a whole car that isn't supposed to exist, according to the database. it's a nice starting point, but it doesn't really reflect the cars as delivered. i have no idea why porsche didn't update the database, but i suppose they had their reasons.
