CAB ROLL BAR

while substantial, and will pass almost all DE requirements without it, to INSURE that the bar does not bend on rollover, you must use the race version

the DE or "show bar" is not intended for track use - most DE events only require "a bar" and they are extremely non-specific about specification - this is so the boxster, and cars like it with factory rollover protection can still enter, even though they would not pass race spec - that is also why they are so careful about passing and such - only a couple of events require race-spec bars

if there is even the slightest concern, use the race version - this does prohibit the use of the windscreen though, and requires some drilling in the sills

none of this however will do anything to reduce body damage in the event of a rollover - the car would have been totalled regardless of whether they had a bar or not - roll bars are to protect the occupants, not the car

by the way, the race bar components are easily removeable, so you can yank them for daily driving

please note: anybody that is found to be known to race, in any form, will not be sold a DE bar - they must purchase a race bar - this is a conscience thing on which i will not bend - i'm not looking for anybody's death or injury to stand any chance of being on my mind - i'd rather not sell it at all, than to sell it in a form less than what i think they need - i'm doing this to help people get out on the track, not to make money, so please respect this decision

i expect to be posting all information by monday morning (might actually be sunday) - it wil include all pricing, options, shipping estimate information, payment options, and completion schedule

i wll also send an email with that information to the 29 other people who sent me emails so far, expressing their desires for this bar

oders can begin then on monday - however many orders we get in the first 48 hours wil be the number we run off in the first batch - this is to make delivery times needed by many - if you miss this batch, it would possibly be a couple of months before the next batch of orders accumulates

get your wallets ready - we're almost there

GUYS,

Give Flash a break...There's always something which happens along the way, and it's usually not in your favor.

As a point of reference, I've got some things going on with my car at the moment. I gave it to my mechanic in February in order to have the car ready for July DE's...Well it looks like it won't be ready much before the end of August!

We're talking about removal of the H/V/AC, removal of dash with carbon fiber, replacing power steering system with manual rack, Lexan windshield, rear hatch and all windows, carbon fiber fenders and hood, and a non-sunroof roof being installed.

All the components were in his shop by end of February; but the panel fitment and paint work took 1.5 months alone!

Something always came up and I'm sure that Flash has had his share of obstacles, too. It's just the way it is sometimes...actually, most of the time.

I bet once the job is complete I'll be really pleased with my car. And I bet once Flash finishes the roll bars, everybody will be ecstatic with his efforts.

Just give it the time it needs.

Jason

it's my own fault - i got everybody excited, and have given dates based on what i have been told - unfortunately, the guy giving the dates has not kept them - in turn, i get to be the bearer of bad news and take the heat - no good dee goes unpunished - most everybody has been very patient though

i am waiting for him to call me right now - the minute i know the final numbers, i will post the letter with all the particulars, which i have already written, and send an email with the same letter to everybody who emailed me

Hurry up and wait has been typical with my Cab since I bought it 2.5 years ago. I was spoiled by my coupe because there was nothing broken and I didn't do much in the way of mods.

My mods are not nearly so complicated, in fact they are pretty much typical of people doing mods. But then there was the replacment of the top and other parts ruined by the break-in. And dealing with insurance. And things that didn't fit.

My wife started joiking that my car was only imaginary.

My alarm has started acting up, and I don't want to get it looked at, because who knows how long it will be before I drive my baby again.

My guess is that we all understand this, it is just that Flash is now caught having made promices base on the word of others. Anyone who cares about their reputation would be going through the same"freakin" that Flash is.

Peace Flash, we know how it is.

thanks - i hope i thought of everything for everybody - there were a lot of variables in trying to work out a unit that would fit everybody's needs

i'm sure i'll get more criticism on it, but that's ok - that's a good thing - that's how we make stuff better

And a few questions;

1. How much does it weigh

2. What is th outer diameter, the thickness of type of metal.

3. How tall of a driver can pass the broomstick test with the bar installed.

4. Are there any pictures or diagrams of the drilling required bolt in parts?

you will send the page to him - when you call, he will give you the address

i'll weigh the prototype today - base model looks like maybe 25lbs

1.5 OD - .120 wall - i chose this over the optional, but not better 1.75OD .095 wall for reasons of fit ease

no clue - not going to be able to anser that one - too many variables - what seat? how high? how reclined? back length versus inseam? posture? helmet fit?

no pictures yet - the holes will be down near where the outer seat belt mount is in the rocker sill - basically, pull your vent in the door jam, reach in and feel the side wall of the rocker sill - that's where it will be

Has a broomstick test been performed at all?

If so what were the results and height of the driver?

How much lower are your seats?

i did a quick test for myself, and there was plenty of room, but took no measurements - i put a photo early in this thread (page 3) that shows the height of the unit - there is no changing it at this point - it is what it is - any taller and it wouldn't clear the top - if height is really an issue - then you would have to add extensions, or go with a different unit

no idea how much different in height my seats are - from the lowest setting, i think they may actually be a bit taller - i don't have anything here to compare with, and again, reclination angle make a big difference

there is less than 1/2" clearance from the very top of the bar to the inside of the top very near the rail when closed - my best suggestion is to use that and the photo for reference as your relative height and check for yourself

the unit is not currently in my car, so i have no way of going back at this time and measuring or checking - i'm not sure if it will be back in at all until the final unit comes back - it is here, but i just don't know if i'm putting it back in or not - i don't even know if i will drive the car between now and then - i'm kind of focused on the other projects i want to have done bwteen now and denver (new exhaust design, lower suspension brace, engine compartment ducting and lower chassis aerodynamics mods)

if i do put it back in, i'll take those measurements and post them

ok - i had a break in my schedule and ron stopped by, so we poked the unit in for a minute to get some measurements and take some shots - thanks ron

the base model is 27lbs

my seat sits a full inch higher than the late model stock ones at full drop, so you can get another inch of helmet clearance in stock seats than i can in mine - ron is about 5'11" - i'll update his inseam, but i'd guess about 33"-34" - remember, with a stock seat, you would have another inch - note also that there is a bit more clearance to be had at the high point, which by the letter of the rules, is where they would "broomstick" - the rules state the top must be up, so, this makes the situation very complicated

the first shot shows a level to give relative position

this shot shows ron seated with a helmet

this shot shows him seated with no helmet
