CAB ROLL BAR

Thanks. I have no intention of installing harnesses, but the camera mount idea is what triggered the thought. I guess I can always rig a crossbar for the camera if I ever want to do that.

BTW - I've noted the references to this item as a "chassis stiffener". When you drove your car with the prototype installed, did it feel any "tighter" as a result of the device?

we have to refer to it as a chassis brace for legal definition purposes - we do not want to imply any idea of rolling the car being ok, and we don;t intend to go through the process of getting national certification as a roll bar - also, i don't think we can get tht designation without a forward brace anyway - the entire purpose was to get past the stewards at DE events and such - we followed the standards established by SCCA and PCA so as to put to rest any arguments with them, and the race spec unit should blow right by even the toughest ones

do you feel it? wow - yes - even more so with the harness bar in place - it really tied it all together - it's good without the harness bar, but with it, scuttle shake is all but completely gone - it would get in the way of your back seats though

to tell you how much of a difference i felt, and keep in mind my suspension setup, i don't even want to drive the car until i put it back in - it's been almost 3 weeks now as it is

Excellent. Let's see - we're 40 minutes from the order closing time. Fabrication will, of course, start immediately, so I assume we will get shipping information by Friday?

lol - i wish - as i said earlier, could be as much as 3 weeks to shipping date - that was the reason for the deadline - i want to get it out to a bunch of people who have events - we are going to turn this as fast as possible though - i want mine too, so if it makes you feel any better, i'm in the same boat as you are

Flash, I really think you should stack them in your car and take a US tour. Think of all the stories - and you wouldn't need to worry at all about DRLs to get attention.

I'll talk to my shipping expert in the morning and see if he has any suggestions.

i would love to do that, and have plans to be going to a lot of places - it just isn't going to happen by the time you guys all want your units - i am bringing a few here, and having an install day at my place, and i have a chance on being able to bring units to denver on the 19th if they are done (seriously crossing fingers), but so far that's the best i can do in the way of delivery

thanks - any suggestion is appreciated - i want to keep the cost down as low as possible for you guys

http://www.shipgreyhound.com/ is often used for shipping body parts, has reasonable rates and will accept large packages. The roll bar would not have to be boxed for Greyhound freight, you wrap it for protection and ship it.

I got a few price quotes for 40 pounds with the longest side being 72 inches.

LA to Hot Springs, AR is $56.25, LA to NYC is the same $56.25 shipping to San Diego would only be $36.30. Delivery time to Hot Springs is < 48 hours, NYC is < 72 hours and San Diego would be <4 hours.

Great, 32 pounds and 52 inches to NYC is $41.85.

The automated quote form wants the value to be under $300 but I know of many new body kits as well as used bumpers, hoods, etc that have been shipped via greyhound with values well in excess of $300 or these roll bars.

it's an insurance thing - they won't cover it over that amount

also, wondering about delivery - do they only go station to station?

I believe it is a station to station delivery method. The stations are early and late if not 24 hours and typically in city centers.

I would be very happy to use this shipping option for my bar.

I guess a call needs to be made about the insurance issue but it seems like these rolls bars should be difficult to damage []

If it matters, I'll be receiving mine at a commercial business location - loading dock and stuff like that. But, if a "station" pickup makes things easier, that could be possible.

I had someone ship me a bumper via USF Bestway, not sure if they're any good, just throwing it out there.

eric - can you send me a link or phone number

bruce - they will be tough to destroy, but they could sustain damage - i would hate to see that happen - i like to insure things for full value in case of loss, but if the buyer is willing to take the risk, that's fine with me

bottom line, they'll ship any way you guys want - doesn't really matter to them - i'm just poking around to find the cheapest way - may not be the same for everybody - i'll send emails out as soon as we are close, so we can make the arrangements

http://www.dsiinsurance.com offers insurance for packages shipped via greyhound. http://www.grw-products.com/ has very low rates, perhaps below $5 per rollbar for freight insurance but greyhound coverage needs to be verified and it would probably make sense to combine the first order on as a single insurance item to reduce paperwork.

Greyhound will ship door to door for additional cost if they have a courier available at the destination.

http://www.dsiinsurance.com will insure the shipments above the greyhound insurance. They need the quote form at http://www.dsiinsurance.com/quote_form.asp filled out to provide an exact quote but insurance should be less than $5 a bar.
