Cab Roll Bar ad nauseum
#1

Well, I've already asked about this before, but...

My two trackable cars (the 914 and SC) both have the engines out getting rebuilt. As the next track event (Pocono) is at the end of June, it remains a possibility that I won't have a car to use. Worse yet, it's Ladies Day that Friday, and the GF desperately wants to take the 968 out on the track. Alas, it needs a roll bar.

So, maybe there is a new batch getting fabbed up? Or, maybe one of you guys that bought one doesn't really want it any longer? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks for all your efforts on this Flash. I know your busy with other projects and this kind of foot work is no fun for anyone. I hope your new figures include a little bottle money for you and yours.

Cheers,

Glau

Update:

Since we have to go to DE next week, and the air cooleds are engineless, I needed a roll bar for the 968. I bought an Autopower, which I installed this weekend.

I know Flash has spent a lot of time and effort on his roll bar project, and I will say this:

Having never seen one of the Flash designed roll bars in person, it has to be 1000% better to install than the Autopower. This opinion is based solely on what I have read here, and the thoroughness and dedication to task which Flash seems to have. I had to drill 12 holes, enlarge the bottom pan holes to put Allen capscrews through the lower pan, fish the support plate through this interstitial space, bolt everything to the upper floor pan, patch the holes, et al. It was quite an installation. And, I can't use the existing interior quarter panels, since I didn't want to hack them up for the rear support braces.

I would have liked to waited on the Flash bar, but we have to have our track fix!

Now, if I can find some cheap used panels to cut up for the interior...

ouch - bummer - really sorry to hear you had to do that, but i understand - i had the coversation today, and still don't have all the numbers in - the shop is just too busy to get to it

additional bad news - unless you got the DOM tube unit, (as opposed to the standard material unit which is ERW) you still won't pass SCCA spec or PCA spec for racing

ouch pretty much sums it up. However, it is what Autopower calls the street sport unit, which is .120 wall DOM, and will pass PCA DE rules (so I'm told; I will keep my fingers crossed nonetheless). If not, I'm going back on the waiting list.

Thanks!

if that's what it is, then yes, the tubing will pass - their standard unit is ERW - you have to pay extra for the DOM - just wanted to make sure you got the right one
