oil filter
#1

I am doing my first oil change and need the part number for an early 968 oil filter. I have one for a 93 968 does any one know if this is the same one that is used in the very early 968's. I have a 92 -968 #068 off the line. thanks any other tips for a new person doing an oil change I sure could use the tip. Thanks

1. Wear old clothes.

2. Make sure the oil is not hot. Warm is OK as it helps it to drain.

3. Get a catch basin that holds at least 7 quarts.

4. Mentally prepare yourself to get really, really messy.

5. Get lots of shop rags to put around the oil filter - when it comes off it will drip and make a small mess.

6. Wear old clothes.

7. Make sure your oil filter wrench fits before you take out the drain plug on the bottom, as you might need to make a quick trip to find one that does.

8. Wear old clothes.

I've discovered the mess and hassle is worth paying my mechanic to do it for me.

Nothing exotic as far as I can tell, here's Bosch and Mahle.

Yeah, a big +1 there. I was going to do that during the rebuild but didn't get around to it. Did an oil change the other day and even though packed rags around the filter and have a spigot instead of a drain plug there was oil every where. Half a can of Brakeclean later and 2 dribble lines down the driveway :-(

Canton definitely back on the short list!

I just googled it - it is a system to remote your oil filter to a more accessible location among other things.

I might do it at some point, but I have a guy for this stuff.

Even though I also have my mechanic change the oil, he charges me quite bait less that he used to when I had the OE filter, just because of the time savings and mess he avoids.. That filter is worth every penny, IMO.

Although at the rate I have that oil changed the ROI on those savings will be realized by 2025. :-) :-)

I don't know if I like my guy enough to spend $400 bucks for his convenience and besides, he just did it and I didn't hear any complaints - lol

there is a version that goes right where the OEM filter goes. it's only about $100. many of us have it.

wait, what ?! $ 400 for an oil change ? I trust you're not referring to your 968, but rather your Veyron ..which he also works on, right ? lol

no - read closely. he was linking to the $400 remote kit, not the one like we have.

I wasn't going to tell anyone about the Veyron. Damn....lol

What I should have said when this thread started was say "Wait, what is an oil change - You mean you have to change the oil?" and then sat back and watched all you guys implode - lol!

Can't find much on their website, as search doesn't turn anything up, and neither does looking for Oil Filters or Oil Filter Adapters. Is there a particular name this item goes by?

yup, did not have enough coffee by the time i read that. i was only on my first cup out of the usual morning six-pack

most people implode when I tell them that I was changing oil ( and we're talking NON-synthetic ! ) in my 944s maybe once every 25K miles and that's only IF and when I remembered to do so, in some cases the interval it was much greater.. and I sold the car with a quatrer million miles on it without any engine problems .. oil change need is another myth I don't buy . However, I'm a bit more attentive to the 968, but not by much.. haven't had an oil change in about 4 years and in no rush to do one either..
