Hershey Fun Run?
#1

Jay and I were talking last night about maybe trying to put together a fun run through the country roads around Hershey after the swap meet.

At the moment this just a feeler.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

I am pretty sure I am. Depends on how much room I need to bring all my stuff up for the swap meet.

If anyone has an inkling of a good route or nice curvy roads I would appreciate your help. I don't know the area at all and feelers I have put on the Reisentoter website have produced no results.

Jay,
Are you part of PCA in that region?
Perhaps you could post on the local PCA site?

Doesn't Don have a tech session planned for after the swap meet? If my recollection is correct, have you thought about how the "fun run" would integrate with, and/or conflict with, that?

I wish I could run with you guys at Hershey. I forgot to bid for April so I am stuck working weekends.
Maybe next year.

He has the killer blue 951 and he's a Reisentoter. I know for a fact that he's going to be there. Just a thought. I think he lives in Allentown? Is that in your region?

You are correct that the "fun run" would be in conflict with the Tech Session from 1:30pm to 3:30 pm, conducted by Pete and others. If any of the 968 Gathering attendees, who have signed up for the Tech Session but change their mind, let me know at dhassenbein@comcast.net

I suggest that perhaps Porschedude might want to volunteer to organize the 968 event at Hershey next year and include the "Fun Run" as part of the event. Just a thought.

i heartily support the idea of a fun run, conflict or not - if don doesn't want to do it, that's fine - he is within his rights - however it is highly inappropriate for anyone else to suggest that others don't do what this car was built for

perhaps people just don't want to come to your house don - that is their right - perhaps they would prefer to go for a drive - that is also their right - one should not discourage that

while i commend pete for agreeing to fill in at the last minute, perhaps it would have been easier to listen to the masses and organize what they want, rather than putting together something else - the role of an event promoter is to provide to the public, and not what they want themselves

things to think about

Sorry Don, although flattered you think I could handle such an endevor, I am not nearly as orginized, nor do I have the time to do what you have done with these events.

But I would like to go for drive with some other cool cars, that's what the car was meant for.

Man, I take the night off from the computer and look what happens...

The sun doesn't set until 7:30 at that time of year...plenty of time for a 2 hour run and send every one home by 5:30.

There is no reason to impinge on Don's event and I would never disrespect Pete.

The fact is that this is an event about elite, rare sports (or Grand Touring, if you must) cars, and for what that's worth, I'd like to actually drive mine (2nd gear parade not withstanding).

Central PA PCA is more than a little anal about driving events...no problem (RTR had a wild Spring Fling run last year, and don't get me started on the Chesapeake "Shake and Bake" group...woohoo). We held an "After the celebration" run in 2007. We had a great time, but, Sunday is a bit awkward, and its hard to keep the interest going in a location 2 hours from Hershey. I'm sure we would have had an even better turn out if we could have held it Saturday, and closer to Hershey.

So many people have asked about a fun run. If Don doesn't want to incorporate a run into his event that's his peragative. Let's just take advantage of the proximity and go for a drive. Doesn't have to be sponsored or sanctioned, etc. If we can find some curvy roads closer to Hershey and on Saturday, then I'd like the opportunity to carve them up with some buds...

Don, if you can come up with 50-75 miles of "Porsche" roads, I'm all ears...

I plan to be back on the road driving home by 7 pm on Saturday but I would be more than pleased to go for a drive in the morning or any other suitable time - my brain works better in the morning anyway. Let's not start a crap-fest here on Don - he has busted his butt to talk me into driving a long way and has made sure I won't need to sleep in the car on Friday. Let's try to fit everything in. For me, not living near Pete and his shop (although he does have a good phone line!) and Flash and his wisdom, a tech session makes sense.

personally, i would like to take part in both. A fun Run and the Tech Session. Perhaps we can set up a fun run that does not interfere with any of the events.

Exactly my point from above...Tech session ends at 3:30 and then we go for a drive.
