6th ANNUAL NORCAL/SOCAL PASO ROBLES RUN - MAY 16
#1

yes, i realize this is WAY in advance - this is to make sure those sissies that always manage to gripe about "not having enough notice", or have "something come up" can finally make it - no excuses this year - put it on the calendar - make it a priority

this is not a holiday - this is not coincidental with anything else i can find so far - it is the weekend between mother's day and memorial day - PERFECT! - weather should be great, and not nearly so hot as last year

SATURDAY MAY 16 2009

we had 20 people last year, and was the biggest yet - we should be able to do even better this year - heck, there are people flying in from the east coast for this

i have more new stuff planned, including a fun run in paso robles - i managed to find some amazing roads hiding back in the vineyards, and will be putting together a really cool route

this year will likely be different in many ways - we will spend more time tasting, at more wineries - i have a few more i'd like to introduce you to - we will likely have a second day attached too, with a planned breakfast, and for those who truly love wine, and want to join us for more tasting on sunday, i can work that out too

it will definitely be an all day event on saturday, starting very early for some of us - we will not be wasting 2 hours at lunch though, and am working out how that will be handled this year, so that will help a lot

i'll put together packages at hotels, make the meal arrangements, yada yada, and post all of that closer to the date

more details to follow as they come up

Man... talk about planning in advance! It's on my calendar, and there is no conflict (coming back from a European vacation that Wednesday, in fact...).

It is on my calendar although it is impossible to predict whether the demands of demands work and/or school will interfere. I was just down in Paso earlier this week. I had a project meeting in Morro Bay on Tuesday and returned to the Bay Area on Wednesday. Would have stayed another day but I had two fermentors full of Syrah that needed to be pressed and placed in secondary fermentation.

I am a big fan of Tablas Creek so that was one of the places I stopped at on the way home. The wines are great and the road you drive (Vineyard Rd from HWY 46W to Adelaida Rd.) to get there is a lot of fun as well, although you really have to watch your speed as there is no margin for error. Massive Oak trees are oftern found growing right at the road shoulder. So if you make a mistake there is no place to go. Late Indian Summer on the Central Coast, doesn't get much better than that in California.

This was indeed a fun event this year.

It was also very fun meeting up with the Bay Area guys and traveling down together.

I can't wait for next year!

Flash,

Sounds like fun, maybe I can talk Jay and Pete into a Caravan from the East Coast

Nah, Jay would never drive this Silver Cab that far!

Good luck on the event, with all the 968 owners on the West Coast (23 968 owners in Calif. belong to the 968 Register) you should get a nice group together.

we always have a great group on this one, and this year could easily be the largest gathering of 968s in a very long time - i expect about 25 cars, based on the responses i have gotten so far - we could end up with more

it will have everything that makes an event great - of course there will be the wine, and great food, but also something no 968 event is complete without - a FUN RUN - there will be a gimmick rally quiz and there will be prizes

i'm going to pop up there and map out the route soon, and make the hotel deals - it gives me an excuse to bring home some wine anyway

glad to see jay is coming out - who knows? we might get pete out here too - it would be great to see a group of 968s from the east coast drive out here, but it is a long way, and i'm probably the only nut hard core enough to do something like that

OHHH YAAAA! I'll be there. If I can't schedule the days off, I will surely be using some of my accrued sicktime (that's what it's for...right?)

this is shaping up to be the biggest 968 event in the country this year - it is VERY conceivable that we will have 30 cars - i am overwhelmed by the amount of enthusiasm for it - this is going to be fun for sure

BOOK YOUR HOTEL NOW!!!

as it turns out, the annual wine festival is that weekend - tons of fun and highly recommended, but as a result, many hotels are fully booked - i am working on locating a decent one outside town, but am not sure if it will match everyone's budgets - to be safe, do this homework now and book a room wherever you can

this is shaping up nicely now

i have almost worked out the route to paso robles from socal - it will be different this year

dan will be working out the norcal route - i think he has something special in mind

i think the hotel thing is resolved (i'll post about that tomorrow - i'll need a head count then for room blocking) - nailing down lunch and dinner plans now - the breakfast on sunday is worked out - the course for the fun run on sunday is almost done

this is going to be a blast
