East Coast - Skyline Wine Tour/Fun Run
#1

I think it'd be cool to do a concurrent Tour to the Paso Robles Tour (April 12-14) out here. I'm fairly new to this area, but there are a ton of cool areas in Central Virginia where the Skyline and Blue Ridge are. Vineyards, waterfalls... so, what do you guys think? I'm thinking begin near Waynesboro, VA It's the southern part of the Skyline, and is about four hours or less from Charlotte/Greensboro/Raleigh, NC; Virginia Beach/Richmond, VA; Washington, D.C., York/Pittsburgh, PA; Youngstown, OH; all of WV and MD...

Any interested??? I'll begin working on some preliminary details and post them here as they come.

But if it's concurrent, I can't do both <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Agreed, I would be (VERY) happy to participate in an event at another (non-conflicting) time...

Darryl and I have spoken about this as a possibility, we would be happy to lend a hand.

Ya, I'd probably attend if it were a different date. I've done a winery tour in NC with my local PCA region, the wines are OK, some really not so, but it was more about the drive. We stayed in Mt. Airy (Mayberry) as it was pretty central to the NC wine country and has lots of hotels and restaurants. If your looking to stay closer to VA, there is a Tail of the Dragon like road called Back of the Dragon in VA that runs down 16 from Tazewell to Marion. http://backofthedragon.com/ There are a couple wineries in that area, but not a lot. Your going to find most of them around the Yadkin Valley area in NC, which is why Mt. Airy is a typical lodging spot for winery tours.

As Tama and Silver replied, there are those of us going to Paso who depending on the schedule might be interested in participating at a more convenient date. This is not to say don't do it when you want to but I would think the more active members who can participate the better! Just a thought.

Yes, let's do it! Jay and I spoke awhile back. I would be happy to host it here at my place. There are plenty of hotels, food, shopping, and historical sights near my shop so opportunities for things other than "car stuff" and I have a couple of fun runs already mapped out from other events that we can do. The Front Royal, VA portion of Skyline is about an hour from my place.

I'd be fine with moving the date. The original idea was for us east coast guys who can't break away to the west coast to be able to participate... but it sounds as if *most* of the people who would be interested in this *are* able to get out to L.A.... so we can try to look at another weekend. At quick glance, April 26-28, May 3-5, May 26-28 (Memorial Weekend....) look good to me. July 5-7 could work....

I won't be driving to Monterey in 2014, so it's either the 2013 Parade or wait and see for 2015.
