2020 West Coast Gathering
#61

Please count us in.  Except for a get together in Monterrey and some other traveling in late Oct and early Nov, we can join in.

Time to get back to planning!

I was at a PCA meeting on Saturday and I had the ONLY front engine water cooled P car there. There was a 914, a three early 911s and my 92 968. All the rest (30+ cars) were new versions of the 911 and Boxster/Cayman.

It's time for another gathering. Anyone out there interested in discussing ideas and locations? We can do Tahoe again, or someplace in the SF bay area north to Portland. We can do wine country or coast, lake or mountains. We can also do a rally style meet, where we stop at one hotel for one night, then go to another one up the coast for the second night, and finish the circuit on day three.

Let's start thinking about this now so we can make plans before the hotels fill up.

Matt

Good for you Matt.  It is most unlikely anything will happen around here; including me not having time or energy right now.  However, I look forward to see heaps of pic from you guys

Here are a few ideas for consideration. The winery that I work at is located in the Dry Creek Valley. The valley is populated with many wineries and is a short drive from Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Santa Rosa (where I live) and Geyserville. Healdsburg is an expensive crowded especially during the summer and fall. Santa Rosa which is about a half hour drive from Healdsburg and Dry Creek Valley has many more hotel options. Good 968 drives include the backroads from Santa Rosa out to Calistoga, the run from Calistoga to Healdsburg through the Alexander Valley. The road out from Geyserville to Mendocino through the Andersen Valley is nice with some very good wineries along the way.

If there is any interest in visiting these areas I would propose it be done during the fall, say late October into early November or sometime in April. With the exception of the Andersen Valley the other areas I've noted above can get very hot in summer. The vineyards are full of fall colors in October making for driving through these areas a real visual treat.

Great ideas and thanks to Matt for starting the planning process!

Bay Area or Lake Tahoe works for us. In Reno and Lake Tahoe there will be no problem finding hotels with available capacity. Last year we filled up the hotel in San Louis Obispo, CA for a 914 event.

Humbolt County, California might be interesting, but don't know availability for accommodations.

(If it's Lake Tahoe, we can come in the 968, 955 and/or 914...or all three over the course of the event, which might be fun)

Working on the idea again. Wonder if 2022 is even possible. It take a lot of time to plan these events. I would br in favor of a Sonoma Wine Country tour and a loop around Clear Lake.....I think it is time to go to new places??

Melva and I have committed to Napa Valley the weekend of April 20-23, 2023. We could extend our stay to the weekend before or after.

Let me through some thoughts into a 2023 WCT. I am sure Matt will add some thoughts as well.
