West coast gathering 2016! 7/8-7/10
#1

Would there be any interest in having a 968 gathering next summer on the west coast? Thinking maybe S. Lake Tahoe? If there is enough interest I would be willing to get it organized. We have a great forum member in Reno who knows all the great driving roads in the area and lots of places to stay there, big casinos, etc. Maybe a 2 day, 3 night? That area is a full day or less drive from LA, Bay area, AZ, etc. But open to other locations. I live in AZ so would need some local help where ever we hold this. Thoughts?

I'll be in Seattle mid-July...might be willing to extend my trip. Washington or Oregon wineries would be an awesome reason to meet.

Any venue where the temperature does not exceed 75 Fahrenheit . I'm never repeating the miserable Paso Robles 100 degree experience ..ever !! So if we do this in the summer, Lake Tahoe may be a perfect venue ( for me anyway ) . So , + 1 ..depending on the location .

Sounds like some interest in doing this. Let's start kicking around some ideas.

So mid-July averages 81 degrees in S. Lake Tahoe. Dan, could you handle that much heat? If you charge up your a/c before the trip, and hang out in the casino durnig the day, you could probably survive it Rolleyes

Flash, deep down, you really don't want to sell the blue car so you won't need to rent the 'vette.

Tahoe968 and MCL968, I'm counting out you to pick the drives since you keep posting beautiful scenry pics Tongue

Jay, any early thoughts on when mid-July might work?

I can start contacting hotels in the area for rates, etc. There is a hotel called "968 Park Hotel" that just sounds right, but over $250/night...... bummer.....

National GTO convention is in Seattle on July 13-17, I could make the weekend before and drive up from there.

Maybe fly in July 8th and spend the weekend with the 968 folks?

Jay, that might work, 4th of July is earlier in that week of July 8 so hotels might be busier, but that's a date we can start with.

Just checked it out on the net. A 16 hour drive from here... sounds interesting.

I may be interested in driving down... but my preference would be before or after the "summer rush" of July and August.

I'm interested, if the event were to be in July, it would have to be early in the month as I have another commitment later in the month.

There are some wineries in the Placerville area that might make for a cool field trip. The drive out from SLT is pretty decent as well. SLT to Virginia City is a good drive, and from the north side of the lake there are some very nice roads that run to Graeagle and Sardine Lake where there is a surprisingly excellent little restaurant.

I'm going to call the 968 Park hotel and see what rates we could get for a 968 gathering. MCL, do you have highway numbers for these routes I could see on a map?

A winery or two sounds like fun.

Hold off on calling the hotel, I am looking for a personal contact through someone I know who works in SLT and knows lots of people.

Check out hwy 341 and 431 (I know, bad planning on the part of NDOT), and hwy 89 from NLT to Graeagle. Hwy 50 runs to Placerville from SLT. Apple Hill is a possible stop between SLT and Placerville too. 342 runs from Virginia City to 50 and Carson City and it has a few twists as well.
