CAB ROLL BAR

Something we have to keep in mind as we always should, is the low production numbers of these vehicles, not to mention the rollbar is only for the cabrios. Doing a test like this with the numbers that will be sold, would probably magnify the price of each unit 2.5X. With a cheap Miata and overwhelming numbers, it's not the case.

The rollbar, is made out of proper material, proper design, with proper mounting points...that's all you/we will have/need to formulate your/our opinion(s).

interesting - that's the first time i've heard of that in 25 years of dealing with different manufacturer's roll bars

i am guessing that they had to do that because they wanted to do a double hoop, which is not typically allowed in scca - i noticed they added a rearward leg on both hoops, the major problem with that design - the bend has me wondering if it passed and was approved - it doesn't say anywhere that it is certified, and only htat an independent engineer concluded that it met the requirements, not that it is allowed by scca

the second link is for anti-roll bars (swaybars) not roll bars

I doubt that the SCCA would approve the hoops in the miata for road racing competition. At the present time they won't allow a roll cage that doesn't go the full width of the car.

i agree - i think the guy that made this was trying to get around the regs - i have to give him credit for trying, but many have tried and failed (i'm still trying to get them to buy off on aluminum)

the regs have been around for a very long time - they work - that's why it's so hard to get exemptions - the testing would have to be extensive - that would likely mean more money than any amount of sales would generate, unless you priced the units really high

that's why i adhered to the specs in my design - so i wouldn't have to get into that

lol - got a bunch now - thanks

should hear something soon - this is "backburner" for the shop because they are doing the development on their dime - that means they work on cash projects first

the only way i see to accelerate the process is to pay him up front for some of that, and i told everybody that i would not start any transactions until i had a finished product in hand, and was sure that the quality was there and could be repeated

just waiting on the jig to be done, the lawyers to finish the disclaimer, the release of liability, and the powdercoating and shipping costs to be finalized

i'm guessing i see something tuesday - i've left them alone all week

I can't wait to find the right cab to purchase so I can add one of these great bars. If anyone questions the need for a bar for ALL driving, go to this website and check out the 968 cab that was rolled:

If I can have one before the end of October, I'll do another TracQuest DE. Otherwise, I'll have hernia surgery. My fate is in your hands, Flash.

Somebody F'd up big time, whether it was the driver of the 968 or another car causing the accident. Glad it wasn't me in the 968, sincerely hope they're OK, but it looks to me like a roll-over event in a non-protected 968 would be difficult to survive.

When I was at a local dealer buying my '01 Audi allroad, I noticed a 996 cab that had been rolled. My salesman said the guy had bought the car 1 month before the accident and took it to some kind of track event. The roll-over protection system worked and he was OK, BUT, his insurance didn't cover the car when on a track. $100k for 1 month's drive time in a new 996.....ouch.

Actually Bob's signature should read "chasemere", they had to rename the color becuse he could "chase" down 996's with his modded 968 and dust them. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

The only thing worse than the windshield frame ending up in front of your face would be a roll bar hitting the back of your head.

Lets make sure any roll bar used in our cabs is mounted correctly.

I met a couple from San Francisco last year who had been involved in an accident where the rear wheel(s) for another vehicle had ended up on the windshield frame of their S2 Cab. Both of them walked away but their car was totaled.
