not at all - i was in cancun

picked up revised prototype saturday - revisions worked out well - now going into production - firm numbers and delivery dates should be released before the end of the week - anticipation of pricing is still the same as before - barring any glitches with the powdercoater, delivery should be first few days of july

Depending on your preferred calender there is one or two days left in this week. I really hope this prediction comes true.

I am really looking forward to being able to place my order.

Cab roll bar installation:WARNING! Floorboard wiring harness can be damaged during installation!

I just had a custom street roll bar installed in my '95 968 Cab TiTiptronicI ordered a regular street rollbar from I/O Port Racing Supplies w/ DOM tubing ($305 + shipping). I had a local speed shop modify the rollbar to be more like a Boxster, so that it followed the shape of each seat, so I had better visibility. (addtional cross braces and a vertical brace was installed lower and over the center) Anyway, I ordered the pre-mfg. rollbar so that the connection points would be worked out ahead of time. Well, there is only one way to put this in. When the local speed shop drilled through the floor pan, in the only place they could, they drilled right through the wiring harness recess that cut off power to the tip transmission and to the power top! (We didn't know this initially, of course) So, I had to go to another shop, and through a LOT of investigation to find the problem, tear it apart and reconnect all of the wires and move the wiring harness over. (It is no longer in the standard floor recess) This is located on the floor behind the passenger seat. I/O Port should have warned us about this drilling location for their support plate. Anyway, I am warning you!

The other issue I have not resolved yet, is how to get the side cowling, over the cab top arms, covered again with this steel roll bar support coming through here. I will probably now have to go to an auto body shop to see how to cut/repair the cowling to get it back on somehow. Has anyone else been through this?

I will try and send pix soon.

I think you hit it on the head (BTW Welcome to the forum) The Autopower RB and others require you to tear up the car drilling holes, interior modification, etc. However Bob's is a simple install you do not have to modify (CUT) the interior panels. If you decide that you want to remove the roll bar in the future you will not be burdened by the damage from the RB installation. I think Bob did a great job designing his RB.

thanks eric

there is NO drilling required for my DE bar - the race version only requires drilling in an area where there are no wires, and is very easy to do

there is no modification required for any of the interior panels,on either bar, and only a slight modification to the storage box

this is designed to be "plug and play"

yeah yeah yeah - i am currently scheduled to go down to day and finalize everything - i am, however, not in control of their constantly changing schedule, so until i hear from them at noon that we are a "go", i am not holding my breath

i will be finishing with the attorneys tonight regarding the details of liability and such for the necessary disclaimer that will accompany my bar (just like on any other)

a full and complete posting of all details, including pricing, finish, shipping and new photos, will be forthcoming shortly - i expect it to be tonight or tomorrow morning (depending on what time i get back from the shop)

update

i spent yesterday at the roll bar shop - by the way, that plce is 70 miles from me, so those of you who are relaly impatient, that may give you a clue of how much of a pain this project has been

ok - the roll bar is now in jig mode - first jig should be done by friday - i will be inspecting it, and the race version components at noon on friday

still waiting on confirmation of powercoating and shipping numbers to confirm price - should have that info later today - then we can begin the order process - in all reality though, it will be next week before we start knocking out the production models and the second week of july for shipping

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but what testing or simulation or ?? has been done to predict how the bar will perform in a rollover?

It is great that a roll bar that meets all our needs as far as mounting and regulations may soon be available but it would be horrible if it hit one of us in the back of the head in a rollover.

If testing or simulation has not already occurred I wonder what percentage of the potential buyers would be willing to pay extra for a tested roll bar? Personally I would pay more to know I will not end up sharing my space in the car with it.
