Temperature Gauge Problem?
#1

My temp gauge is sitting on 3/4 when the car is cold. I let it sit for a week and verified that the temp gauge has not dropped off of 3/4. When the car starts and gets warm the gauge tops out. I have verified that all of the hoses to and from the radiator are hot and the fans come on. I noticed this after I fixed the odometer and had the instruments out. I know I made the connection correctly with the wires and the gauge and have verified that again. Does anyone know why this might be wrong? I am sure it probably happened while I had the dash apart.

Thanks.

odd - typically it's one of the multi-pin connectors not making good contact

you can check the ground that is back there

also, disconnect the sender and see if it drops to zero

Could be that you indeed have a loose connection from having the instrument cluster out...I've experienced occasional wiredness during that process as well. Check to make sure everything is seated nice and proper. Beyond that, the guage could be damaged or malfunctioning. I had North Hollywood Speedo repair mine while they had it for a different repair...they mentioned there is a thermistor on the back that likes to go bad. This usually causes erratic movement and random pegging of the needle but it seems as though yours is working, just not starting at the bottom like it should.

I hate to seem ignorant (I am with the 968) but where is the sender?

Thanks.

I disconnected the wiring harness from directly behind the gauge and it did not move. The fuel gauge would not work while it was disconnected. I connected the wiring and the fuel gauge worked but the temp gauge never moved. I guess the temp gauge is bad. Any other possibilities or places to get a replacement temp gauge?

Thanks.

When I had this issue I located one for about $25 from a Porsche recycle yard. Check this site with SEARCH and you will find several.
I use PARTS HEAVEN.
