Sway Bar Setup
#1

Hi guys, I am having some work done on my car inlcuding adding 18" Carrera III wheels with 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 tires added, along with Konis all around. I am also going to upgrade my sway bars and am wondering which if these 3 set up options would be best for a street use, with a possible occasional D/E, Autocross day thrown in here and there. Which setup provides the best performance?

968 M030 Bars Front and Rear 30mm and 19mm

Cheapest Setup

Weltmeister Bars Front and Rear 28mm and 22mm

Most Costly

or

968 M030 30mm Front Bar and 22mm Weltmeister Rear Bar

Intermediate Cost

If I go with the 968 M030 Front and Welt 22mm Rear what settings would be best?

Wha settings are best for the other two options?

Thanks!

unless you have a lot of track time to tune it, i would not run the weltmeister - nice and flexible, and a lot more tunable, but it presumes the time and expertise to do it

Kgain, I use "ol blue" as a daily driver and participate in about ten autocrosses and three DE events each year. I have the M030 sway bars front and rear along with the Koni, yellow, gas, adjustable shocks & struts. I also installed H&R progressive rate lowering springs in front and 28 mm Weltmeister torsion bars in the rear (adjusted to make the car level after the front springs were installed). I have been using this combination for several years and have been very succesful in my Region Autocross Series (Either first or second in my class each year.). I recommend the factory M030 sway bars front and rear as a very good start. Springs and Torsion bars can be added later as they are needed and funds allow. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Flash, I don't see how adjusting the Weltmeister rear bar is any different than the MO3O bar other than it is infinetly adj. and the M0 bar has 3 adj points. For a street car you can just set the Welt bar in an area that would reflect the same points as the M0 bars hole spacing and give it a try.

I have the M030 bar in the front and the Welty bar in the rear. It worked out this way for me because I already had the Welty bar on my 944S. I took it from that car and put the 968 stock bars on.

well, first off, the weltmeister is a different torsional rate than the M030 bar, and consequently putting the link in any position, thinking that the length is related, and anticipating similar results, is not going to work

you could use a big torque wrench and clamp though to determine the correct position relative to the rate

that being said, i am not slagging the bar - it's a good unit that has a lot of adjustment - however, what most people don't realize is that 1/4" adjustment makes a big difference at the edge - most people don't drive hard enough to ever find that edge though - never going to happen on the street

however, on the track, it happens very quickly

Just an update to my original post I decided to go with the 968 M030 bars front and rear.....

I should have the car back in one or two weeks as it is in the shop having this and some other items taken care of including the new wheels and tires.
