Koni suspension setup
#1

There's a koni yellow suspension setup being offered on RL for a good price (and since I'm in need of at least one strut..), but I don't know if the components will work on the 968 or if they're suited for the car.

Car is a cab, no bracing. To date the car is all stock, and main use will be on the street.

Suspension setup being offered is:

A like-new full set of Koni Yellow shocks and struts (model 8741-1136 Sport front, 8040-1035 Sport rear). These are the single adjustable (for rebound) shocks and struts that are similar to the m474 option. The 8741-1136 are the complete strut housing type. They were replaced by 8641-1038 inserts for non-sealed OE & 8641-1414 inserts for sealed OE units.

Fits all 1987 to 1991 model 944's (including S & S2), all 944 Turbos and 1992 - 1996 model 968. (except w/ optional M030 suspensions)

The front units come with Weltmeister 250-SP sport springs and the rear includes a set of Sway-A-Way PowerBarz 30mm torsion bars.

Will this be suited to my use or are the springs and torsion bars overkill?

i'll have to look up the numbers to see if the parts are applicable. i don't keep that in my head.

coil spring rates are not out there too far. plenty of cars out there running on 250# and enjoying it. they will definitely firm things up, but if you like a glass smooth ride, it may be a bit much. if, however, you are ok with a bit more feedback, the cornering capabilities will improve.

the 30mm torsions though are a bit heavy for those springs. that equates to 335lb/in. you really should run a 27 or 28mm torsion to balance against 250# coils.

the koni yellow rear shocks are a bit twitchy and jumpy. some people are ok with them. others find them harsh. they are a good "bang for the buck" shock though. i prefer a hydraulic shock on these cars over gas. it smoothes out the ride better.

I was thinking of a Koni yellow setup on all four corners anyway, but with the drill & cut inserts. I'm not convinced I really need to lower the car or up the spring rate, but the entire setup offered would cost me about the same as new inserts & shocks.

My experience with my car has been fairly limited, but I did find that I had a lot of cowl shake -- would stiffer springs/torsion bars would exacerbate that problem?
