M474 Suspension on 968 thoughts
#1

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to getting the M474 option put on my 968?

Um, what's a M474??? M030 was the optional suspension upgrade for the 968, and most would tell you that unless you have an original M030 Coupe that you can do far better with aftermarket parts.

JMHO,

I was unaware of this, but a little digging indicates M474 is a factory upgrade (maybe for 944/951?) to Koni yellow struts/shocks.

wmuldowney - They might ride a touch more firm than standard struts/shocks, but their larger advantage is that they're rebound adjustable.

M474 was the bilstein setup for the 944

It is listed on the 968 Options Code List as "Sport Shock Absorbers" and yes they were also option for the 944. They are yellow and from what I have found they are in fact Koni.

every option list i have (and i have at least 4 of them) says that the 968 M030 sport shocks and the 944 M474 sport shocks are not the same, and that the M030 (whether on the 968 or 944) is koni and the M474 is bilstein. the M474 though only came on the 944.

You would know, I'm still way new to it all. THought I wanted M030 options then by time got it gathered way more than just going Koni. Any recommendation on sway bars?

Porsche M030 sways are wonderful but they are NLA now and like a needle in a haystack to find. Lindsey Racing is porbably the next best bet.

Funny that they are NLA. Probably because every cab owner put the M030 bars on their cars <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Check around. The M030 bars come up for sale every now and again.

If I didn't already have them, I would go with the Tarrets. We put them on the 944 Cup car and they work great and are very adjustable. Nice pieces.

I'm looking at shocks/struts and coil overs right now too. The question you need to answer is what your intended usage is for the car. Flash and I have talked about his setup, and I am leaning that direction. Another good option for a mostly track vehicle is the Bilstein setup. The Bilsteins are a bit on the harsh side for the street IMO. Another option is the KWs which have mixed reviews in the community relating to spring rates and damping.

If I were just doing a pure street car and not changing spring rates, I would just put on Koni yellows and be done.

YMMV
