Leda Suspension
#1

Hi,

Been offered a set of Leda Suspension (Coil overs) with two sets of springs (Hard & Soft), just checking on the spring rates but what should I be looking for?

They look in perfect order and aren't very old, are these a straight swap for the standard suspension?

Cheers

Andy

If its the same package I have, this is a great deal of work, but a fantastic deal for you. Springs are fairly inexpensive and can be picked up from time to time on the different boards, so getting the perfect package shouldn't be too difficult.

Can you clarify what you mean by "this is a great deal of work"?

Having checked, the two sets of springs are (front / Rear)

250 / 125

400/ 250

Seems reasonable ratings from what i've read on here?

Which model LEDAS ? There were std oil non adjustable, oil adjustable and gas adjustable. The gas shocks need less spring.

The first set of spring rates are very light unless gas shocks. The second set is a bit imbalanced if oil shocks.

How do I tell the model?? They are adjustable (i.e. they have the dial on the side) and look very much like the one's on your website.

Also as they don't have any brackets on them (for the air ducts and is it brake lines?) what do people do?

Sounds like you have the Oil Adjustable. Very good shocks (when available)

I believe you need to re-index T bars to use springs on the rear. A 10 Hour job. UGH!!!

What is your desired use?

Are you planning to delete T bars?

No, planning to keep the torsion bars, my specialist will be fitting them and doing a geo and he mentioned the torsion bar 'may' need re-indexing but won't know until he's fitted them.

Use is part road car part track (fun) car, not a serious competitor or anything.

I took a bit of a punt on them, mainly because my current standard 16 year old suspension is pretty tired and i'd heard Leda weren't bad as an upgrade (my specialist used to run them on his 944 track car) and these are pretty new and haven't seen many miles and together with M030 bars and all the bushes (again hadn't done many miles) all for a bargain amount (circa $750 dollars) delivered to my door thought it was worth a go at that price. Other option was KW's but you are nearer $2k for those.

Also came with a free set of klaindustries solid top mounts that look new......... not sure if i'll use them though.

I think you need:

350/125-too soft with Oil shocks

or

450-500/250-should provide good ride with excellent track manners

I think you will need to run front damping up a bit with those front springs. Be careful at first for oversteer.

I still think you will need stiffer front springs

Thanks, so I'll keep an eye out for stiffer fronts.

just be carefull on those 22 mm diameter pistons ,

when inside a ditch or riding kerbs at high speed on soft settings ,have tendency to bend.

Have 2 of those all on right hand side, although leda uk claimed were heatreated in Germany.
