Power locks self-opening
#1

I have been fighting a many month battle with my door locks. First the PO had a keyless system installed in the car. It stopped working and the door would unlock minutes after I locked them (by remote or key). So I have this POS removed. The rear hatch button was also dead and I replaced it. These things combined appeared to fix the issue. Over the past month I have found my can still unlocking by itself. It is also random. It will be fine and stay locked evey day for a week, then unlock one day.

This is an issue, since I part in a parking garage at school, and someone could just open up the door and get in.

What should I do next? I have read that there are some ground points that should be checked (where are these?). What parts of the system should I replace next? If all else fails, can I remove the power actuators and just make it turn key, will the alarm still work this way?

Any advice will help a lot, I am very annoyed with all these issues.

Thanks!
Randy

I have the same problem.... my mechanic told me it was the actuator. On the list to replace. A/C compressor is ahead of it though....

if it's all the locks, check the central locking switch - sounds like that is wonky

Does that replace the switch in the center console?

Is it part number : 964 613 134 00 (says you need 2)

The link you posted seems to be the actual electrical switch/actuator and since 2 are required, that would be one for each door, so no this is not the switch in the center console. I'd disconnect the switch in the center console (easy to do) and see if your problem goes away. If so, you've got a bad or dirty switch. If the problem remains, then it's something common to the system as Flash eluded to above.

Not wanting to "highjack" this thread...

my switch in the center console is still lit up since I posted about it several months ago. Locks work fine, but the red light has been glowing since I "tested" the alarm system by opening the doors with the top down, without using the key. I wanted to test the alarm to make sure someone could not simply reach down, pull up the lock on the the door and get in. The alarm did go off, which was good, but since then the the red light has been on. Any ideas...

well, since that light is lit, and if the locks are working properly with the switch, i suspect there is a short in the switch that is sending power to the LED

Update: I removed the centrer switch, made no difference so far. I also have a new symptom. The past few days (every today with the switch unplugged) the power locks don't work. I turn the key to lock the car and it only manually locks the one door (I have to use the key to lock both). When I turn the key to open the door, the power locks work and they both open.

Could this be the electric actuator and micro-switch?

if it's the same on all doors, it's likely the control module, relay, etc

if it's only one door, then it's likely localized to that door

Its both doors. Do you know part numbers for the relay or control module?

Anyone know which relay it is (part number)?

What is the control module, the central locking system/ alarm control unit (928 618 260 03)? That is about $400...

If you don't have the factory alarm, that is not your problem. Look at the bottom of the fuse box cover, it will tell you what relay goes to the locks. Hope this helps.

I have an alarm. I will check the relay, and see if replacing it helps.

I thinnk the issue may be the driver side micro switch. I want to unplug it and see if this stops the doors unlockng. How can I do this? The one end is inside the door at the handle. Where is the other plug end? Do I have to remove the door panel to get to it?

UPDATE:

I ended up re-plugging in the alarm control unit (main unit in pass footwell). I then left the unit sitting in the footwell for about 2 months. The unlocking issue stopped. So it looked like the plug was just loose. I just reinstalled the metal tray that holds the unit (and DME) back at the front of the footwell. When I finished the install, I pushed the carpet piece back down on it and the doors unlocked. Weird! I then got in the car, locked the doors, and pressed on the panel again, they unlocked. It appears every time I press on it, the doors unlock.

So, my first question: Does the metal tray that holds the DME and alarm unit have 4 attachment points? When I took it out, there were 2 plastic "nuts" that hold the top of it to the car, but nothing on the bottom. It does look like the bottom should have had some screws or bolts to hold it down (with only the 2 at the top, the bottom is able to wiggle in and out a slight amount).

Also, since the metal frame can move a little, does it sound like the movement is pushing on the plug enough to cause the unit to unlock, or would a cracked wire sound more plausible? Any experience with the wires cracking over time causing a short when wiggled?

Thanks for any help.

I think there should be 2 large Philips screws and washers in the bottom as well as the plastic nuts up top.

Having just changed my chip and had all this out can confirm two phlips screws at the bottom as well. I did notice that on the alarm module the wires are slightly exposed, i'd guess one is slightly damaged and catching on the metal.
