Power Lock Button - light "on"
#1

I "tested" my alarm system a number of days ago and it went off. That was good. After that the red light in the Power Lock Button (located close to the shifter) has been "on". Anyone know why and how to "clear"?

Did you push the button a few times?

I have only tried to push it once. I will give it "multiple" pushes and see what happens.
Thanks for the feed back.

How did you test the alarm?

I had the top down and I then "locked" the door from the outside with the key. I wanted to make sure that if I parked somewhere with the top down, someone would not be able to simply reach in and "unlock" the door by pulling the lock stem up and then proceed to open the door, without the alarm sounding. Sure enough, the alarm went off when I "unlocked" the door without the key and then pulled the door "open". I was able to shut the alarm off when I inserted the key.
But... ever since then, the "red" light of the Power Lock Switch has been glowing.

Did you ever figure this out? I was wondering the other day what the point of that light was on the rocker switch. That switch confuses me anyway, you can lock your doors (handy for those drive in "risky" areas?) but you can unlock your doors as it's only a one way toggle. You are forced to pull up in the door stem and we all know they either break from age or come off in your hand.

I'll be interested in your findings. I never lock the car with top up or down. With the top up I'd rather that they help themselves than slash the top (never happened to me but I have heard stories) and with the top down it seemed rather pointless. I suppose the alarm might do some good, although most people just ignore them any more.

Dave,

On my 93, when I press the central locking switch behind the shifter it locks the doors, press it again, it unlocks them. Page 14 of the owners manual.

Tks, I'll try tonight. Usually when I hit that switch it's by accident while I'm cleaning and the doors are open. It always seemed to only lock but maybe I'm just not paying attention (ask my wife)
