OEM Speaker question
#81

correct. the other colors are the standard wiring colors for aftermarket decks

i am pouring over every page of all of the diagrams, and i have yet to find any purple or pink wires.

my only guess is that maybe it goes to the optional eq. i've yet to see one, so i don't know.

does everything else in the car work?

My reasoning was that the purple, green, grey and white wires come straight out of his (supposedly) OEM deck to the blank plug, and according to the wiring diagram affixed to the head unit, they would power the front and rear speakers directly, so they have to be OEM if the head unit is OEM.

i get that. however, the wire colors are not listed on that diagram. i also have no idea if that deck is actually a factory unit for our model car. i haven't seen the front.

in looking up the blaupunkt florida, i can tell for sure that it is NOT one of the decks for our car, and was not factory installed.

so, all bets are off on what happened with that wiring

My bad. From his option codes I was under the impression he had an AM/FM Cassette deck. I thought it was Lear who had the Florida (CD) unit.

Edit: I take that back, from the photos mbardeen posted of his Florida unit, it is nothing like the unit in this car, so it still might be OEM, whatever it is.

Edit edit: Oops, I mean Lear, not mbardeen, sorry about that.

lol - crap - i was scrolling back to the photos, and looked at lear's post, but thought it was fatboy's. he said he had a florida, but the florida wasn't made until '99, so i knew it wasn't factory

so, back to the original question of determining what deck is in there. i can't tell from the back

Is this certain? No Florida RD 168 until '99? That means my '94 (nee '93) doesn't have the original radio. That's news and a surprise to me.

okee dokee - yup - original deck

now, if i could just figure out where the pink(purple) wires go to, i would have a clue as to the function of that connector. i can't find them in the diagrams

pretty sure it is not your problem though.

If I feel up to it, I might take the seats out tonight or this weekend. I will look later for something along the firewall fuse ways....

I am thinking it might be either a connector for an early car phone or maybe for the optional in trunk 6 disc cd player.

Okay - I got a light and looked under the seats - All that I can see are the motors for the electric seats - nothing else. It pasenger side is clear that there is nothing else there, the drivers side not so easily seen but I don't see anything work hauling out the entire seat for. - I can see no wires along the firewall that are obvious aftermarket wires. There are two additional wires on the + side of the battery, but they are black and obviously factory. I can see no fuse housings on them.

So we are back to square 1.

The CD connector is probably the round DIN plug. I'm guessing the Purple/Grey/Green/White wires aren't used in your situation, if the speakers are driven by separate amps.

That same plug would also drive your rear speakers, and if your rear speakers are otherwise working, that's proof there's an amp somewhere, because the line-outs that are plugged in (to something) don't have enough power to drive a speaker by themselves. Maybe the rears in your situation are self-amplified.

the amps are UNDER the carpet under the seats. you cannot see them without removing the seats. they are very small (about 2" x 6")

The amps and crossovers for my OEM rear speakers were actually attached to each woofer. Do yours look like this?

Also, the amp that should be under the front passenger seat is not very big, and is often hidden under the seam in the carpeting.
