OEM Speaker question

No one said they were under the carpet. That information would have been helpfull about 5 hours ago. Everything is back together now and I am not taking it apart again. It took 20minutes just to get one frigging scew on the forward side of the console on the diver's side in. I have never had such an expensive car that didn't have a friggin' tilt steering wheel. WTF?

The next person to take it apart will be the stereo guys when they replace the entire system. I'm done.

Thanks for trying.

i'm sorry you're frustrated, but i am at a loss to understand why. at no time did you say "i have the seats out". had you have done that, i would have said "pull up the carpet". frankly it sounded like you didn't want to pull the seats.

this is the internet. you have to expect a 12 hour delay in any useful response. at best, you have a 3 hour delay from you to me. that is if i happen to be looking when you post and i have time to post in response. this kind of problem will take at a minimum of a full day to diagnose.

also be aware that the screws used to hold down the seats are intended to be "one use". while they will still thread in and such, they are designed only to hold torque one time. this is a DOT design issue, which comes into play on things like seats. that's why they were such a bugger to get out. the more times you take them out, the quicker they will lose torque, and require re-torquing.

I know Flash, I know.

I really didn't want to pull the seats yet. So you are coorrect, but had I known they were not visible I might have changed tack and might have been a bit more optimistic about doing it. How do you get new screws once you take the seats out? that seems sorta a pain in the bum.

As I said I think I will just wait until the car is a strong runner. Then I may start looking for a good stereo set up. Actually, the only place I know of that I would feel comfortable taking the car is in PA. I have not even started looking down here. I still have a big bill to pay for the tranny rebuild.

lol - it is a pain. you have to order them. blue loctite will do in a pinch though. just make sure you don't bugger the heads, or you won't get them back out. a trick to help prevent that is to tap the tool home, making sure it fully bottoms out. they tend not to let you do that, and then you round out the screw.

Thanks. That job has shifted down a rung on the priority tree but I will remember that. Usually when I screw up the factory fastener, I just jam a big ol drywall screw in with the DeWalt.
