Speaker grille cloth - recommended replacement?
#1

I need to re-paint one of my door speaker grilles as I can't find one used.

The cloth is glued to the inside of the grille - and being a very thin felt-like fabric just gets destroyed when you try to pull it off. Which I did, and it was. :-)

Tweeter cloth comes right out - no problem.

Question - can anyone recommend something close to the original weight and color? There's a lot of speaker cloth out there... hard to tell what is right.

Thanks,

J

Go hit a fabric store. They sell sheets of material that is very similar. It comes in white or black. Black was not available for me so I purchased white and painted it with interior trim paint. Use light coats when spraying. After it dries, trim to fit and use small dabs of interior trim glue to keep in place. You'll only need to apply in corners.

Flash - Too late for me as it is off already.

Schwarz - Thanks. I was hoping for some armchair internet shopping but when pressed yes I will head out to the fabric stores. :-)

Lots of speaker building supply companies (online) will sell grille clothe by the foot/yard. I replaced mine with new when I refinished everything including painting the metal perforated parts.

Thanks Darryl. I'm deep in the wiring project now so speaker grille cloth and repainting like you did will be the final step. Were you happy with your cloth? Gotta link?
