OEM Speaker question
#41

My speaker connectors were like in the picture - all separate funny little two-pin affairs.

it has been so long that i can't remember what the connector at the back of the deck was like, but i think it was like the one in the picture.

the black one he is talking about definitely mates to another black one, and is the speaker wires. it's upstream of the deck.

the bottom line is that it has to all come apart to see what's going on in there. seats out and the whole shebang

I have a factory installed Blaupunkt Florida radio. Here's a couple of pictures of the back. Maybe they'll be helpful.

I took photos of my stereo to post here, but it wants a URL...do I have to put it on a photo sharing website? I am confused.

I think when you type your reply, instead of hitting "Post", you hit "More Reply Options" below, and then a larger editor windows pops up and there is an option to attach files (including images) at the bottom of that window...

Here is the plug that has no mate - I only have the two speakers behind the driver and passenger --no sound out of anything on the door and I can't find the 9th and 10th speaker

Here is the same connector different view

Another plug that is plugged and mated.

Here is the back of my factory deck

Here is the wiring diagram

you may not have 10 speakers. there is an 8 speaker hi-fi option.

use the wiring diagram in the workshop manual that you downloaded. it will tell you which wire is which.

Okay, I still can't figure out what that unmated plug is to. I am not an electrician, so diagrams and schematics are lost on me....

It's right there on the stereo... you showed a picture of it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm guessing that is plug "B" because it has eight pins, and it has a notch on one side in the center of the plug,... (the other plug with eight pins has a notch that is offset).

According to the "B" section of the wiring diagram on the stereo, pins 1 and 2 go to RR (Right Rear speaker), and I can't quite read the other ones because the flash is shining off the sticker, but I think it goes 1-2 Right Rear, 3-4 Right Front, 5-6 Left Front, 7-8 Left Rear in that order.

Plug "A", with the big red wire from the battery, is in the background of your first picture, and plug "C", which only uses positions 5-10, is probably the one you show in your last picture of a plug.

That unmated plug looks aftermarket, since those are aftermarket speaker wire colors. Curious..

Edit: Additional Info -- factory wires have a brown stripe to indicate ground.

I wonder if someone installed a different factory stereo than came with the car, just to sell it. But, if the wiring diagram on the stereo even shows that plug, it should be there somewhere?

@mbardeen, I think green, white, grey and purple are the factory colors for the speakers,... are they not?

I have no receipts to show it is not the original stereo...the car belonged to a friend who passed away 2 years ago which is why it has sat for so long and needs a transaxle - there was nothing to indicate it was worked on to "Sell it" - I know the car has not moved since before his death.

There are no other connectors under the console - everything that is there is pictured. When I peel the carpets back, all I see is glue. I will just put it together and take it to someone. I want everything working and to use my ipod anyway. I will probably upgrade everything at the same time. I just thought if I could get it apart and plug something in that was loose it would get me by for a while.

Thanks

Ed

Just for edification, that connector you show with no mate, is it attached to the harness in the car, or is it attached to the stereo itself?

The loose connector with the Purple, green, Grey and White wires goes into the back of the deck as does the connector with the Red, Blue, Black and Yellow wires - which I would assume is the power connector.

Yes, the red, blue, black and yellow is power, antenna, ground and illumination, IIRC. The purple, green, white and grey wiring is your direct speaker outputs, and the ten-position connector "C" (that mates with the red plug), is your line level outputs to an amplifier.

I don't have that setup, but I'm guessing because your 10-position "C" connector is wired, you have an amp there somewhere and the speakers are fed from that. It gets low level audio from the brown, green, blue and white wires according to the wiring diagram on your sticker.

If that's the case, the plug with no mate is OK, because you can't really use both - you either drive your speakers directly from the amp in the head unit, or you drive an amplifier with line level audio and *it* drives the speakers (and that appears to be what your setup is doing).

So does that mean there should be another connector that mates with the Purple, White, Gray and Green? Where the heck is it? I just can't find it. Arrrgh! This should not be this difficult - lol.
