OEM Speaker question
#21

I bought the three volume set on Ebay.

I did not know - some seats you have to undo from the underside of the car

are you sure that is the workshop manual? that sounds like "excellence was expected". i have it. great books, but no technical information.

Hmm could be - the ad led me to believe it was a tech manual. I will check them out when I get them. I will still prbably keep them.

Thanks

Oh, yea, I already had downloaded all the stuff from Cannell's site.

Hey Flash,

I got the center console out and looking at the stereo hookup - there is a large plug coming out of the back of the stereo that does not seem to have a mate. I will try to get a photo - all the black insulating material is really sticky - it is kind of a mess ugh. Wires all look good, I am guessing this was noise abatement material.

WIld guess. You have the stock stereo so maybe the connector for the old analogue cell phone interface option?

I wish I knew...There are green, grey, white and purple wires in the connector I guess I will put it back together.

look at the wiring diagram. those are speaker wires. i think you just found your problem. electron transfer mechanism not engaged.

beware. looks like somebody was in there messing around. test everything before frying something.

I can't find another connector that mates up - everything else is connected.

can we presume this is a factory deck?

Pull back the carpet in the passenger footwell, it's easier than working under the pedals on the driver's side. See if the previous owner stuffed the wires back under the carpet for some reason - they might still be there, but are just no longer reaching all the way to the center console.

Yes factory deck - first owner only had the car for less than 8,000 miles or so, second owner was not really a do it yourselfer - hardly any miles, third owner was his son, and again, not a do it his self kind of guy - I bought the car at 44K so nothing in the service history regarding stereo.

I will have to pull it out tomorrow as the garage is too tight to get the passenger door open.

Thanks

i would be very concerned that if the connector is stuffed away, that it is for a reason, and something was wrong. if you connect it without testing things first, you may short out your deck.

I really doubt there is something "tucked" - I pulled the entire center console out and ran all the wires I could find and nothing seems to be hanging loose. I will double check tomorrow before I put all the screws back in but I doubt that things were messed with. I will try to take some photos too, but I can't post photos yet as I don't have an external hosting site. I was using flickr but they changed everything and I got pissed and deleted my account and am not going back.

I have tried that and it asks for a URL and I don't have one. I can put them in my album but have not been able to put them in a thread.

No - I saw that photo already - it is black and more square with two rows of pins. There are a couple similar ones in it. I don't think I have a connector that looks like this at all. I will try to take some photos

the connector in the pic above is the power connector.

the one you are talking about is the speaker connector.

It has power so I doubt that is the problem - I am probably just going to put it back together as it goes in next Monday for the transaxle rebuild.

I found a place north of me that can do it, with a two year warranty. I will worry about the stereo after that is done.

Thanks
