i don't know where you read that, but that is not what i have read anywhere - can you show me that? i've owned about 20 different sets of fog lights (mostly KC, Cibie, and Hella) over the last 4 decades and 40 cars, for all kinds of vehicles, including off-road, not even counting the ones that came with the cars, and none of them said that anywhere, in fact, quite the contrary

from everything i've read, and experienced, foglights are designed, not to penetrate fog, no light will do that, but instead they are designed to light up the peripheral areas (the sides of the road and the lines) - they are there to wash the area in a light that cuts glare, typically yellow in aftermarket, but often white in OEM - this helps provide depth of field, and give the driver a better sense of distance - they are designed to be used in conjunction with low beams, and not by themselves
On a foggy night I tried driving with just the fog lights on thinking that's how they should be used, it was pretty unnerving; It didn't feel safe driving faster than 30. I definitly would not drive with JUST the fog lights as they illuminate only about a car length or two infront of the car.

Back to the topic though, while I like the 993 style headlights, I also like the pop up look of the 968 headlights too. It looks slick when it's down, and different when it's up. If anything it would be nice if the gap between the lens and the body was smaller in the 968.

it's important to keep in mind that very few fog lights actually are designed as fog lights. Most are some form of aesthetic or auxiliary light that the manufacturer stuck a fog light name on.

Is anyone else working on a headlight conversion kit?

A company called Arktech had a drop-dead gorgeous 993 fixed headlight conversion that was accomplished via a modified carbon fiber fender that integrated the larger 993 headlight beautifully. But, as you might expect, it was also chest-clutching espensive, and I think they went out of business a long time ago, so I'm 99% sure there isn't a fixed headlight conversion kit out there, nor is there likely to be one, given the very small number of 968s that were produced.

Yup, I guess they could work. However, they'll never find their way to my car (at least, not while I own it!). <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/excl.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

OMG it looks like an evil frog, what were they thinking, do you think they all dropped an acid tab, then decided to design some new lights. ruined IMO. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Excellent spy shots! That, my friends, is a new collaboration between some recently unemployed Porsche design engineers and the styling wizards at Avanti... Quoted press release from newly formed auto manufacturer, Avantipo:

"We wanted to rekindle the venerable 4 cylinder platform, toss in a little pazzaz for the new century, and provide the consumer with that nostalgic throw-back feeling. We will compete in the Panamerica market segment, perhaps not in number of passengers easily transported, but certainly in the looks department" - Hoerst Gutentag, former head of 4 cylinder engine development team, Porsche Motorsport.

Model name yet to be released, but I suggest calling it, "The Avantipo POS".

Has anyone attempted a 968 headlight conversion on a 993? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
