Thanks to all who posted in response to my question.



The solution was stupidly simple. My light is very, very small and built directly into the hood latch assembly. I must have looked right at it a half dozen times, but was looking for something bigger and never recognized it for what it was. Plugged it in and it works fine. Click the latch catch shut and it turns off, so the switch is working. Total cost = 0, but the lesson was priceless. (Never assume ANYTHING!).

Re dropping the hood - If 18" freaks you out a little (it does me, I have a KLA brace), experiment with how low you can drop it from and have it latch. I can drop mine from 10" or so and it latches just fine.

Just installed a pair of LED replacement 12 volt festoon style lamps. One in the engine compartment light housing and one for the interior dome light.

Results:

Less current drain

Brighter

White instead of yellow in color

Less heat to melt the nice German plastic



The dome light color really updates the interior. One of the least expensive yet coolest ( no pun intended ) mods that I have made.

Thanks Brian - I have a couple of melted light housings and have replacements sitting in the parts bin waiting to go into the car. I presume that this festoon light fits the trunk light housing as well?
