Mystery wiring connector
#1

The pic shows a two-wire connector between the PS reservoir and valve cover just behind the distributor cover. The connector apparently crumbled (as usual) in the past and someone fixed it with a big gob of silicone sealer. Not good! I ordered new amp connectors to replace the mess. Just curious, need to know what the connection and wires are for.

if you're talking about the black boot just above center in the shot, it's hall sender.  it basically tells the ECU where zero is.  if that fails, the car will not run right.

the wires in there are EXTREMELY thin and fragile.  repair is very difficult.  i recommend simply replacing the hall sender.

Thanks Flash.  So is this a two or three wire connector? Car runs great right now. Maybe I should leave well enough alone!!

the sensor from Porsche is £180 GBP, you can buy the same sensor off ebay but have to rivet it to your old plate and a bit of cut and shut on the wiring

search for Siemens HKZ101 hall sensor the last one I rebuilt cost £13 GBP

Sorry I didn't do a "search" on this topic before I posted my question. A wealth of good info and advice here on the hall sender. My wiring connectors are typical 968 toast (see reference sender). Got new ones coming from 944online and

Eagleday.  Might as well give it a shot installing new connectors cause the sender seems to be O.K.. Can always bite the bullet and buy a new sender. BTW Vertex porsche parts in Miami has hall senders for $135!
