wiring question of alternator
#1

I can wire an entire house, but I don't know wiring for cars very well. Was looking over the engine compartment diagram and was trying to decipher things. In the pic below, for example, if you look at the generator (alternator). the D+ wire coming off on the far right ends at a box with "A62" in it. What does "A62" mean? I see these kinds of boxes with numbers on them all over, but don't know what they mean. Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks

If you look at the wiring diagram "key" in the upper left hand side of the wiring diagram, you will see that a rectangular box is a connection point. So the A62 denotes where the wire goes to.

If you look at sheet 5 of the wiring diagram (which is the sheet where your image is from), you will see the A62 connection. This box is on line 43 of sheet 5, section H, or H43. If you go forward to line 62 of the wiring diagram (each page of the wiring diagram goes up in numbers for rows, you will find 62 on sheet 7), which is sheet 7, and then go to column A, you will find a box with "H43" which means that is where the wiring is continued from.

It just denotes that the wire is continued on another sheet (or same sheet) and what row and column it can be found at.

Hope this helps!

Paul, it sounds like you have the wiring diagram. Can you walk me though it for this example. If I read it right, a62 leads to h43 on sheet 7. H43 then leads to F99 on sheet 10. At F99, there is a box with e62 and if I follow that line, it seems to run to the abs control unit. Wouldn't seem like an alternator wire would run this route, so what have I read wrong?

I ran into this when I rewired my race car. The ABS control unit is started with a relay that is triggered from power to the circuit linked to D+ on the alternator. It's the same circuit that is connected to the charge light and a few other ancillaries. It was never too clear why the ABS needed to know if the alternator was running, but the best theory was that some ABS systems are prone to generate low voltage faults if they do their start up logic check while the engine is cranking, so starting the ABS with a relay triggered from D+ delays the ABS system startup until after the engine is running avoiding the problem.
