The benefit of knowing the cause is being able to keep the failure from happening again. If it is a fatigue failure, not much we can do about it unless you wanted to go to shotpeening, or. If it is corrosion leading to stress risers and thus failure, we could add some corrosion protection to new springs to minimize the risk of failure ever happening again. Preventative vs ongoing maintenance.
