Anyone know of a DIY parking brake replacement?
#1

Inherited some some rotors from a friend with a 944S. Even though I was told they wouldn't fit I had to find out for myself. They look almost exact. So I removed a rear rotor. Yup. Not the same. Same hub size. The disc is thicker and taller. As the rotor was coming off so did my e-brake shoe in a million pieces. Guess it's time. Luckily I also inherited a new set of those that will in fact a 968. Before I start tearing into this does anyone know of a good DIY for this job?

Posted this a year ago. Ended up putting the rear brakes back together and left out the parking brake on the driver's side. Still worked with just one side. Not very well but it still worked. So this year I jumped in and rebuilt both sides of the parking brakes from soup to nuts. There is actually very little information out there on how to do this. Looking back I wish I had photographed and documented it so I could do a nice DIY. Anyway... if anyone has questions on how to do this I feel pretty comfortable with it now. It actually pretty easy now that I see how it all goes together.

ping! I think my parking brake just gave out at highway speed! Car is safely home and up on jack stands. I'm fairly certain the cable is broken or has come loose somewhere donwstream of the parking brake lever in cockpit, but not sure where yet.

Is anyone aware of good documentation on servicing / replacing 968 parking brake in 2026?

It is straight forward old skool system the parking brake .

The video is from 944 , same system , this is fore type 1 brakes , before the brembo brakes .

Can't be that hard to find more on youtube also later style 944 with brembo calipers , same sytem as 968 and looks .
