Brake bleeding

Yeah, I opened the bleed screw on the master cylinder, and got a few small bubbles, but didn't notice much improvement in pedal firmness. I'll give Pete a call tomorrow to see if he has any suggestions. I would think that if there is air anywhere, it would be at the front right wheel, which is where the ABS unit is located. But I bled that caliper twice, and it was virtually free of bubbles. I have it about 90% of the way, to the point where I could drive it on the track the way it is, but I'm afraid the fact that the pedal isn't as good as it could be will be in the back of my mind serving as a distraction. I did some hard stops today, and it stops straight and true, and knocks my eyeballs against the back of my skull, so there's no lack of braking power at least.



Oh, well, the clutch (which was supposed to be the harder of the two to bleed) feels great, and, again, this may be my imagination, but it seems as though the shifts are just a touch smoother than before I replaced the clutch master, slave, and high pressure line.

Do all 968s have a bleeder on the master cylinder? I looked all over and couldn't find one on my car. Made taking the Motive Bleeder off the reservoir and removing the remaining fluid down to the fill line an added nuisance.



When I put in my 5/33 bias valve, someone posted saying you have to activate the antilock function and then bleed a second time to get out all the remaining air. I took this to mean the entire system since the air in the antilock controller could conceivably turn up anywhere in the lines, not just at the wheel closest to the controller.



Finally, for those changing the bias valve, I was able to get it out by removing one hard line whose other end connects on the inner fender wall (so easy to get to), and then snaking in a crowfoot wrench to get hold of the bias valve. Took me about 30 minutes to make that plan and then about ten minutes to carry it out ;-)

Did you actually experience this? In other words, did the pedal get mushy after the first time you activated the ABS after installing the new bias valve? I've finally gotten all the air out of my system, and the pedal is nice and firm. I'd hate to think I have to go through the bleeding process yet again (and buying another can of brake fluid) after activating the ABS. Anybody else have this experience? Thanks.

I actually haven't done the re-bleed process yet, but my brake pedal has turned mushier since invoking the antilock several times, so it could very well be true.



With eight bleeders to care for I agree, it's a bit of added work.

No. Some masters have a bleeder where the red arrow is. I'm not sure why the difference.
