Windshield Replacement
#1

It would *seem* that both variations of the 968 use the same windshield.... but before I buy one...

Are there different cuts between coupes and cabs?

Danke.

yes!!

i see no way a cab windshield will fit a hardtop - the cab is 60mm shorter - i actually measured them

I was wondering.. I need to replace (rock chips, 18 y/o windshield...) and the supplier I contacted said they were one in the same. In my head, I could make cases to believe and not believe him... I'll do more digging.

They are not the same...there are different part numbers in PET. The angle/incline/rake whatever you want to call it is different which would explain Flash's difference in measurement.

i don't think the rake is any different, but now i will check

the top bar of the cab windshield runs lower than the roof of the hardtop, which dictates a shorter piece of glass

Ah, maybe you're right about the rake being the same...for whatever reason, I was under the impression that the cab was a little flatter/lesser angle. Didn't all cabs start out as coupes?

What I keep hearing is that only Cab Windshields are available. That they are shorter than Coupes and that they have the antennae. Folks seem to have found a way to install them.

they are shorter, but it's at the top - there is no way i see of a cab windshield being installed in a hardtop

i just confirmed the part numbers and fitments

cab part numbers are:
941.541.011.10 - green tint at top - with antenna (standard for U.S.)
941.541.011.11 - no green tint at top - with antenna

hardtop part numbers are:
944.541.011.14 - green tint at top - with antenna (standard for U.S.)
944.541.011.13 - all clear - with antenna
944.541.011.12 - no top tint - with antenna

I really don't see how anyone would manage to install a cab windshield in a coupe without having to custom build a frame to fit it
( and hopefully make it look and function as if it was factory .. ) We're not talking about one or two mm shorter here, there is a significant difference, seeing the windshields side by side, I just can't imagine how you could even come close to accomplishing that
task

The coupe windshield are definitely available, I just had mine installed , but they are only at Porsche dealers - no aftermarket windshileds made for this car - so even Safelight and/or other major auto glass sellers have to order it from the Porsche dealers.
The good news : the new base for the rear view mirror which is visible to the outside is now black ( instead of sliver ) so it does not stand out as much and matches the black windshield lining/stripping. A nice aesthetic improvement, IMO.

Yup, I just had a new screen fited as well. Mine matches the part number for a screen with green tint and antenna

Resurrecting this thread as I just discovered a crack in my windshield and it's growing. I have access to 944 windshields, will these fit the 968? The part numbers noted above are all 944 so I'm guessing that it will fit. Anyone have any experience using a used 944 windshield in their 968?

BTW, there is NO antenna in my current windshield and it is made by Sekurit.

Thx

If you look at the base of your windshield, there is a ton of glass overlap at the cowl past the seal. I guess the cab screen could be used and it would not have all that overlap. Just a guess.

I've always thought my windshield looked too short on the bottom - not extending far enough below the level of the hood to look 'right' to me. It's not original and was replaced at some point by a previous owner. Maybe it's a cab windshield. I'll get a pic...

I'm about to replace my windshield and given how hard they are to find, I bought two new from a local reputable glass dealer at a very good price. Should be interesting to see if it fits; they say their system shows that it is for a coupe. Shipping label sticker says it fits an 87-91 944 and was made in Estonia (St. Gobain Sekurit). When I look on PET, it does show that the part number for the 87-91 944 is the same as the 968. This windshield does have an antenna in it, but I am assuming this is because of the 944, not the 968, which has an external antenna for the coupe. The windshield does not have a porsche part number on it. The measurements are the same as my current windshield (29x57, measured from top to bottom in center and side to side along the bottom). The PET diagram also looks very much like my windshield, but can't really tell anything about the angles.

Stay tuned...

Porsche doesn't offer Porsche 968 Coupe windscreens anymore. The only available windscreen is the one from the 944 (hence the antenna). The windows you've found will definitely fit because the antenna is the only difference between 944 and 968 windscreens.

Good to know for future reference. I just got a decent sized star chip that I need to get fixed. Hopefully it won't crack until I get it fixed.

I need to replace mine screen soon. the amount of miniscule rock chips in it creates a wonderful rainbow effect that glares you in the eyes at certain times of the day... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/excl.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> What's the going rate for a cab screen these days?
