Left door window seal replacement
#1

I'm trying to replace the left (US drivers side) door window outer seals on my 968 coupe - both lower, and "back" - see below picture for issue :

I had originally ordered part "PCG-853-371-B" thinking that looked correct based it looking like part 3 in this diagram:

Turns out that's NOT the seal, but rather the "moulding" - a metal trim piece.   Oops.

So now I'm looking elsewhere in the parts catalog and online sources (pelican, etc) and think the correct part for the lower "window slot seal" is "PCG-837-469-A" (superceded part# 477 837 469 A) shown as part #2 in below image from PET.

I cannot seem to find the rear vertical seal in the parts catalog - the closest looks to maybe be "944-537-079-00"  (part #4 above in PET) but that shows as a "window guide" around the top as well, while the damaged part on mine appears to be the vertical back part of the window ONLY.

Can anyone confirm or correct the "lower (horizontal) seal" part number and provide any insight for a part number on the "rear (vertical) seal" so I can get them ordered and replace the two damaged seals I show in the top two pictures in this message?

Well, I can now confirm at PCG-837-469-A IS the correct part for the "window slot seal".   I removed the old one and replaced with a new one last weekend.   Removal was easy, roll window down, pull damaged part up and out.    Replacement took a bit longer, not difficult, just time consuming (and many attempts) to get the new part seated correctly in the clips.   I found it helpful to mark the area of the clips on the outside of the door and use a flat plastic "blade" to hold clip slightly open while trying to get the new seal seated correctly.   A couple of pictures below :

View of the clips in the door with the old seal removed, prior to the new seal being installed

View of the door with the new seal installed and "blue painters tape" marking the spots where the clips are inside the door panel

I can also confirm that 944-537-079-00 is NOT the damaged vertical part of the back of the window.   Still no idea what part number that is, and would be greatly appreciative if anyone can decipher the parts catalog to point me in the right direction for that part.   :-)

Thanks for a very useful article on this window-seal replacement.  It is good to know from the outset that it isn't necessary to remove the inner door panel, etc., to accomplish this task. The author is correct in noting that seating the replacement part is challenging.  I put a bit grease on the inside of the five or six clips and levered them out a little to engage the replacement.  I also had the assistance of a helpful neighbor, a car guy, to help ensure the piece went into place over its fun length..  I did use a grinder to trim the right (on the driver's side) end of the piece to get it to fit, but I would suggest doing this only if you are unable to get it into place.

Hi RDK,

While installing the new seal are you supposed to go one by one when pressing the seal into the clips? If yes, does it make a difference if you start from the door handle or mirror side clip? Or is it better to first press onto the outer (middle?) ones simultaneously and then proceed with the rest? Thanks.
