Door Will Not Open
#1

Yesterday I went to unlocked the driver's door and no open. It won't open from the inside or outside. You can hear the lock click. I read through previous threads and tried the beat on the door method with no success. It is my understanding that when the inside and outside will not work that the lock is stuck in some intermediate position. Is that true? If so, is there a way with the glass down to get it to the right position? Anything I can lube from the outside or down glass position? It has gotten colder here and perhaps that has created this. I could try and get it the garage (heated) and perhaps that would help; however, it would be hard to get my fat frame across the center console. LOL

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I had the metal link drop off the lock on my S2 which meant the inside handle was ineffective. However yours sounds like a lube it with WD40 or equivalent (including into the lock barrel) and waggle away ... Key, door handles, console switch.... In the end, if no luck, you'll need to lean across to unscrew the door panel and reach down inside. Good luck....

I got it. There is a horizontal rod that the electric door lock shifts side to side. When unlocking, it is pushed towards the jamb. At the end of the rod is a plastic/nylon socket. It is attached to a ball on a lever arm attached to the lock mechanism.  Push the lever towards the jamb, door unlocks. I could hear the rod move, but it wasn't unlocking the door.

The socket has completely broken on the driver's side and partially broken (pieces missing) on the passenger side. I was able to put the glass down and insert a flat aluminum bar to actuate the lever arm.

You can see these connectors with the glass down, so a visual inspection is possible. Time to pull the door cards, I hate doing that. I hope the glass doesn't have to come out to replace these small parts. Could I be that luck......probably not.

Okay, I believe the part number is 944 537 511 00, operating rod for door actuator. I found a post from someone that did this. No door glass removal required.

Sounds like the bits that broke on my S2 ... I fixed it by removing the locking mechanism from the door and also the door handle. No need to remove the glass Smile
