Rear Cargo Cover
#1

Anyone re-done the cloth rear cargo cover, so it's black again?
Mine is faded.
Thanks

Faded? How can anything fade in BC? Maybe you meant moldy

I purchased a aerosol can of black fabric paint and it improved things quite a bit. Still not perfect though. I noticed that the instructions for Kyrlon Matt Black state it can be used on fabrics and I may well give this a try after a bit of testing. Krylon seems like a very good product to me. I used in on the inside of the glass of the rear hatch and it turned out really well.

Good luck.

I've been thinking of doing mine in a lightweight black mesh. The current fabric isn't faded, but it has a terrible smell. Maybe I should just take it off and run it through the wash, but I imagine good things would not come of it...

That is exactly why I replaced mine. It smelled like mouldy, decomposing rubber.

On my newly made one, I have alcantara as a top layer facing upwards sound deadening material on the bottom (The same stuuf used when installing stereos in cars). It has greatly reduced the booming sound comming from the back.

I don't have a photo yet...but it's comming.

Johann, did you get a chance to take a picture? I washed mine -by hand btw- and the smell (smoke) has partially gone away but it's still faded and in need of some more TLC. Curious about your solution!

Thanks Johann. It looks really nice, but isn't it a few shades too light?

It is a little lighter than the rest, but it is the same shade of blue. So it doesn't clash with the rest of the interior. The problem I have is that Midnight blue interiors and fabrick is almost impossible to find. Evey couple of days I scan eBay, Maktplaats etc for anything in Midnight blue, nachtblauw and nachblau and up until now i have not found a single piece

My order at ALPO is still pending, I guess cause they can't find the blue end caps for interior screws anywhere

What colour is your interior? I have some Marine blue one in my garage.

Hey Johannvb - I like the look. Is that a self supporting hard material or is there some supporting structure? Have you designed it to pivot in the front? I've got to do something with mine. I've often thought that my car looks great except for the dirty and stained "cloth" hanging in the rear glass.

My 922 S2 has a blue interior and it was also a pain to replace the steering wheel and dash (cracks). I put in a black steering wheel and dyed a black dash blue. I also used the dye on the screw covers/carpet clips to change black ones to blue. It's a fairly close match on a dark day

@Chudson - I reused all the original hardware, I just replaced the faded material. The cover has Alcantara at the top and sound deadening material at the bottom. It is reasonably stiff, sorta like a mat but a little softer.
