Rear Cargo Cover
#21

OK I see now. Monitor at office larger and picture much better than at home. What threw me is you appear to have widened it and / or it now fits the opening much better - correct? I'm going to target something similar - thanx

Yes, it covers the opening completely now. The uphosterer made a cardboard template.

I'm looking at a 1992 968 and it does not have a cargo cover, are the cargo covers an option at time of purchase? Thanks

I'm no 968 expert but I believe they were standard equipment - color matched to the interior of the car - anyone know for sure?

Agreed, standard and color matched.

This is not the best photo, but you will get the idea.

Johan, nice mod - yet isn't this cover too stiff to open?

Anyone re-done the cloth rear cargo cover, so it's black again?

Mine is faded.

Thanks

How about dying it. All need is some black dye and a tub to let it sit in for a while. Pretty simple process.

I bought some fairly cheap black fabric paint at a local fabric store and hit both sides of mine. While it's much better than it was, it's still not quite as black as I'd like. Agreed, you'd probably get better results with a tub full of dye, but that may get a bit messy.

I think when it comes time to do mine again, I'll have a new one made like Johann's.

Dying method is often only suitable for materials with X % of cotton or other natural fibres. And I understood the 968 luggage cover is "110%" polyester or similar plastic.

I was also thinking whether an old cover can be used (for the mounting hooks etc.) in combination with some new fabric, e.g. the stuff carshops sell for parcel shelfs, subwoofer housings and alike.

Good to see other's have (relatively) successful improvements made, so buying a 968 with a taddy cover is not a problem (for that part)

Check online for a "FibreNew" franchise in your area. They repair and restore vinyl and leather.

So, the 968 I bougt has no cargo cover at all :-(

Nevermind, I will find a solution: anyone got a spare (even sunfaded no issue, than I'll replace the fabric myself)?
