Trunk key hole cover
#1

I have a painted "bumper plug" cover fitted in my blue 968 trunk key hole and although it's removable I almost never use the key to open the trunk in that car so the cover is more or less a permanent bling fixture . Now that I have a new hatch motor and a manual release back up in my daily driver as well, I started to search for another plug I can use on this car but then thought ; what if I just use the touch up paint directly on the key hole area to simply match the car's color ? That way I could even use the key if I wanted without having to get into the car first or remove some plug , and still mask that " cat's ass " look of the keyhole :-) with a uniform color scheme. Has anyone painted theirs and if so , can you post any photos ? Just curious what it looks like.

lol - mine is a price pfister faucet cap (hot)

paint won't work well, as you will scratch the hell out of it trying to get the key in there

Bought a set and they don't fit very well. Took them back. Maybe they changed them since you got yours Flash?

Hmm, I'll check a Home Depot or Lowes or OSH store this week and see what they still have for that brand, or , other faucet brands caps. Guessing they're really cheap and I can probably afford to buy two or three just as an experiment to see which one fits best.

picked up the price pfister caps at Lowe's , they fit ok. there were two styles, the new one looks more sleek/modern, it has some fancy design on it and it has a larger outside diameter, but the underneath the surface of the cap, the fitment component diameter is the same as before

ds, are you talking about price pfister replacement handle buttons (Danco as manufacturer) #80677? That is what I have, and the diameter is too large and the "prongs" are too long, to fit in my cars bunghole! LMAO! I got mine at Lowes also.

Ernie, let me see if I can still find the package they were in , I think i threw it away already.. truth be known, I only test-fit them so did not push that cover all the way in, just went by feel with a partial fit and the prongs diameter seemed right, but pretty tight . And if the prongs are too long i'll just cut them, for $ 4 ( set of three ) I can mess around modifying them, lol

Thanks ds. Maybe I'll shoot back over to lowes and see if they have genuine price pfister buttons? That may be the ticket.

Crap ! Dang it ! Sonnomabich ! Painted them yesterday, went out to put them in and ... No go ! The prongs diameter is maybe half of a friggin millimeter too big and it can't really be be forced in, the plastic is not flexible and it'll break. The old one I have in the other car fits perfectly, these new ones seem to be just a hair off and maybe the faucet space tolerance is ok for that, but not in our cars' keyhole.

So I broke all the prongs off, used the 3M automotive sticky tape on the cap and mounted it in place. We'll see if it stays in through car washes and all that.. If not, I wasted an entire $ 3. 99 + tax :-) :-) on this project so I'll have to give up my drive-trough breakfast croissant at Jack in the Box on Monday to make up for the loss :-

next time, use a heat gun on the tabs to soften them up a bit and bend them in
