there is an adjustment for the handle at the base of the handle - it's one of those pain in the butt double nut deals - the procedure is on page 46-7 of the workshop manual

Have adjusted parking brake on all 3 cars. Follow the workshop manual. There is more to it than just adjusting the pull of the handle.

Before you adjust the brake handle, pain in the ass, try lifting the rear off of the ground and by using a large flat blade screwdriver, reach into the brake housing, through the wheel spokes, and click down the adjuster until the wheel does not turn with hand strength, then back off one click. repeat for both rear wheels. Check the brake handle, should stop the car from rolling with 4 clicks. If not then you need to adjust the cable where it attaches to the brake handle.

if these operate like every other drum brake since the late 60's, you can actually adjust these by merely driving the car in reverse and hitting the brakes to a full stop - each stop equals 1 click

frankly i don't remember if they had the automatic adjuster on them or not - i would have to take a rotor off again to see - it just wasn't something that i ever paid attention to

I adjusted the parking brake on my 924 and don't recall it being all that difficult - the star wheel was frozen up from age, dust and dirt, but once I got it to turn the procedure was pretty straightforward.

Flash,

went in reverse and stopped, repeated 3 or 4 times. T\Seemed to tighten the E brake!

Thanks

When I parked my car on a hill, and gravity overrode the hand brake, I knew it was time for an adjustment. I turned to the 968 manual for the procedure, and overall, it worked pretty well. No more wondering about where the car got to!

A couple of hints for those who may find themselves trying it for the first time:

1. Both rear wheels must be off the ground at the same time to get a proper adjustment.

2. After removing the road wheels, rotate the drum, so that the little hole is toward the top. Using a penlight, align the hole with the toothed adjusting wheel inside the drum.

3. To tighten the adjustment, rotate the adjusting wheel upward, using a flathead screwdriver blade (both sides rotate this way). The wheel turned much easier after spraying some brake cleaner in there. Be sure to place something under the drum to catch the dirty fluid.

4. Adjusting the handbrake lever itself really is a bear. No wrench that I own will fit the nuts due to lack of clearance between the nut and handbrake housing. Maybe Porsche has an ultra-thin double jointed flex tool for this job, but I had to settle for using needle nose pliers.
