ABS light periodically blinking and now doesn't shut off

Flash - yes. But that was in Oct 2010. Max did that and I have had no problems from them until this occurred. I replaced all the engine sensors that plug into it at that same time.

Darryl - thanks. Send me a PM with a price please. You will also have to tell me where to find it in the car.



Thanks to all. I am just going out now to hook up the Durametric cable to see what, if anything, it will tell me.

Update. The Durametric cable, as I suspected, doesn't look at ABS. it showed no faults in the system, same as the CEL blink test.

It hangs vertically in the passenger foot well on the right side, ie, towards the outside of the car. Part number 928 618 118 00. PM Sent.

i asked about the harness, as those connectors can be finicky. i would check them carefully before diving in with new parts. the fact that they were changed or fiddled with is exactly what makes them suspect. new or changed parts are more likely to be the cause of a problem than a part that has been in there functioning.

But the problem, Flash, is that I don't know what "parts" you are referring to. I did the job I do best by buying the harness and sensors and paying to have them installed. I didn't do the work and wouldn't have the faintest idea of what to be looking for. If there is some sort of procedure available that I could read it would be helpful. Remember that I haven't a garage, tools or any real mechanical knowledge. In auto mechanics talk - an educated idiot!



And Oct 2010 was a long time ago - I have driven that car 45,000 km since then with no issues. Seems odd to think that such a problem could be related to work done so long ago. But I would check them if I knew which one to check. I can't see most of them being issues as they related to the engine fuel/air/temp issues.

understood. basically somebody is going to need to do a point by point diagnostic of the signal path from sensor to module. it may well end up being the module, but it could also be any part of the chain along the way. if that harness was one of the ones changed, it would be suspect.

the only harness that was changed was the DME harness and all of the sensors that attach to it.

Usually this is a simple bad connection to a wheel sensor, which lead a difficult life and often fail or the wiring or connection fails. Someone might have told you yours are all OK but that doesn't make it so. It is worth checking. I think there is also a signal to test the pump you could look for. If you can figure out at what point the self-testing is failing that would help. It might be worth learning how to probe your wheel sensors also. You could at least look for a short or open.

Hi folks,

I have the same problem for a while. At first the ABS light it was blinking and then it stayed on. I replace the relay as recommended and then I also replaced the sensor. Still no luck though I suspect it is the wiring.....another issue of many

well, the new ABS module was not the problem. So I give in the the vagaries and miseries of this issue. I am simply going to remove the bulb for the ABS and red warning lights. Cant stand to look at them any more.

Could somebody please post a picture of how the wheel speed sensors are supposed to be connected, and where? I've found plenty of pictures of the sensors, but none so far showing how they're supposed to connect. My ABS light is on, so I think I may have installed it incorrectly when I put the brakes back on, but I'm not even sure that I actually disconnected it (only that a bad or incorrectly connected one can cause my symptom), so a picture or two would be really helpful. Thanks.

I do not have a pic, but there is a cylindrical carrier that holds the connectors for the ABS and brake wear sensor harnesses. It clips to the front uprights, rear is similar. You can google the ABS sensors to see pics of what these look like (thought I see you have done this) however the connector end is hidden inside the carrier. which opens like a little box that holds the connectors tightly when closed. These can come loose from the upright, mine are secured by zipties.



It is easy to bash this wiring when taking the wheels on and off, or stress it if the struts or brakes are serviced.



If you feel it is a wheel sensor you can ohm them all from the ABS brain end and if that does not find one you can read the small AC signal from each in turn while pootling down the street. That way you know which one to inspect.

I remember the cylindrical carrier, but I didn't know what it was - I assumed it was primarily the wear sensor, the wires for which on my car were cut by the previous owner. I don't have my car at the moment (it's at the shop getting the roll bar installed and the alignment/corner balance), but when I get it back, I'll remove the wheel and take a look. If I can't make sense out of it, I'll post some pics so people can ridicule - I mean guide - me as to how to connect it correctly. The ABS light wasn't on before I took the suspension apart, so I'm assuming it's caused by something I did or failed to do, as opposed to a failure of a component.
