This isn't a direct answer to your question, and don't get me wrong - I'm not recommending that you do this, because it's a HUGE job, but since I've removed the engine from my car (primarily because I'd like to upgrade the connecting rods in preparation for heavy track use and possibly forced induction in the near future), I've found sources of leaks I hadn't suspected before. For example, the o-ring material that mates the oil filter housing (not sure of the technical name for it) to the engine was shot. And the o-rings inside the lower balance shaft cover are also leaking.
Getting the lower balance shaft cover off with the engine in the car would have been challenging, because the right motor mount bracket is in the way, so I had to remove it. Maybe there's a way to get the housing off without removing this bracket, but I didnt's see a way. At a minimum, I think you'd have to remove the cross-member to get the balance shaft cover off.
Similarly, the oil filter stand seems like it would be a royal pain to remove with the engine in the car, but again, I didn't have to try.
I plan to remove the oil pan tonight, so I may have some insight into your question about the oil pump housing leak soon.
