Cause of oil spill.
#1

hi guys, first off i'd like to say that this is the most user friendly porsche forum I've used. the diy guide is superb <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> and i hope i can contribute at some point as i work through my build.

Anyway, i have an '82 euro 944, more importantly its fitted with a 968 engine.

When puling out onto the road last weekend it begin spraying oil up out the bonnet up the windscreen and all along the road.

I switched off immediately and don't think I've suffered any serious damage to the engine.

It caught fire around the manifold, but again i caught that immediately with a fire extinguisher and other than powder and oil everywhere, I've escaped any fire damage too i believe.

ill be cleaning down the engine bay over the next fortnight and before i clean down and fill with 5 litres of cheap oil to road test and track down the source I'm hoping to get some advice/suggestions as to the likely cause of this failure.

I'm thinking and hoping its only a failed oil line to the cooler or the oil cooler its self.

has this happened to any of you guys?

TIA
