You have to remove the second pan from the front right behind the "batwing." The oil sump is approx 14" x 10" or so and is ribbed, with a smooth circle in the center....it is on the bottom of the motor just behind the crossmember. The drain is on the side of the sump (passenger ?) and is ~17mm IIRC. Not around my car and can't describe it much better. Good luck.
Thanks for the fantastic description! I was on the right track yesterday, but I didn't want to take off a bunch of panels and find out I'd done the wrong thing.
Boy, was it hard to get the oil filter off and on. I disconnected the electrical lead to what I assume was the distributor. Then, there was a hose about 1" thick which made it very hard to get the filter off. It looks like it was leading to the air filter; is it okay to remove this hose?
My oil filter wrench couldn't get a grip until I wrapped the filter in duct tape.
Anyway, I'm having a nice feeling of satisfaction at having done the work myself. I haven't bothered to change my own oil in almost 20 years, but it felt good to get under a car again.
