You have to remove the second pan from the front right behind the "batwing." The oil sump is approx 14" x 10" or so and is ribbed, with a smooth circle in the center....it is on the bottom of the motor just behind the crossmember. The drain is on the side of the sump (passenger ?) and is ~17mm IIRC. Not around my car and can't describe it much better. Good luck.
Wow! w/ such great details who needs a pic.
My first oil change on the 68 was just as confusing. I was so use to the Japanese cars so i would look for a square slanted pan, sitting over to one side of the car, with the obvious 14mm drain plug.
The 68 was so different (and so centered) that I didn't know what I was looking for.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

good for you.
I dont have my 68 in the garage at the moment but I think that 1" hose you mentioned is a coolant line.
If you replace your filter w/ a K&N one you will not have such a difficult task removing it 3K miles down the road. They come with a socket fitting on top of the filter.
