Nor Cal/Socal Rendezvous - Paso Time Again
#61
I'm out since I'll be somewhere over the pacific on my way back from Tokyo. I could use a good drive after three weeks of planes, trains and taxis...

Arash, What's the story on the track day you are doing?
Dude, tell me about it. I keep getting delays and rainchecks on fun runs. Either there's some other event, or nobody wants to come with, or I get busy myself. We need to hammer out a day and place to go kill some ozone big-time.

The june 15th track day... I wanted to wait until the day before the deadline, to see if there were waitlist spots or not. I wasn't planning on driving, but just riding and watching... and fixing Roger's car. My brother is set on going as a driver. He has 2 weeks to get his car running....... and it's getting close.

For those unfamiliar with my brother's pos... he has a 1991 vw gti, which came with a 8v 1.8L 4 banger, good for 120hp. It has been converted to a VR-6 engine from a corrado, 12v, 2.8L, 190hp. Also it's had some weight reduction done, so he claims it's the quickest thing with wheels. Currently it is missing lots of engine wiring and all the chassis wiring, as well as a proper radiator and some miscellaneous engine parts. But I think a week of solid work will get it running.

So he'll be driving, trying to prove how awesome his car is, and I'll just be taking photos to prove how weak it is. I don't really want to subject my car to the destructive forces of tracking... maybe I'll take the 944 though!

no worries - more important that you are there than which car

arrrrgh - i ran into the same problem, though i had been previously assured that it would not be an issue - i got past it though by going to a test only - he didn't blink at it and i didn't bring it up

So, when and where is this? I mean what time, and what address? I'm planning to go to the inland empire on either thursday or friday, so I need to know how much time I have to load up my car, empty out my fridge (ewww) and check my overflowing mailbox.

Ron,

Provided the registration has not expired yet, "first" test failed or not, wouldn't you still be able to drive the car ( given that the header cert is simply a technicality and it's not as if the car is polluting the environment ) until the second test /carb certification is obtained ? And if you're stopped for anything on this trip ( speeding for example.. not that I'm suggesting any of us would ever drive over the posted limits ) and the registration is still current, I can't imagine the CHP/local police would show your failed test on their database and give you a hard time, would they ?

Sean,

Left you a VM - fingers crossed that the tap will suffice ! If not ready, you're welcome to hitch a ride with me !

Alternatively, I hear that Lindsay Lohan, Carol Migden, Ed Griffin, Mel Gibson ( possibly Kerri Russell and Halle Berry also ) will be driving their own cars to join the Paso Robles meet, so you could also hitch a ride with either one of them

thanks man. I may take you up on that. If Halle isn't going of course.

I'm just about to take the car to a recommended mechanic to have them check out the threads. Right now the car sounds like a Harley Davidson

Sticker is expired now, I havent had time to take care of it. I have been out of the country and all over the place... I was hoping to take care of it when I get back from sin city... but it looks like i may have to wait a couple of weeks... I have not decided yet whether to put the stock headers back or find somebody that can take care of it for me.... I just dont want to have to deal with this every other year... I even thought maybe registering the car in NV, since I have a home in sin city anyhow...

OK I'm back in, but only for the meet/greet and the lunch. I don't drink alcohol so I'll just hit the road back towards SF after lunch, get some rest, and wake up early for the Parts Heaven swap meet. Daddy needs new wheels.

Cool ! Looks like we'll have a pretty respectable size group from the Bay Area now Ernest , who joined our SF run a couple of years ago is likely to free up his Saturday and join the parade as well.

Ok, those who want to caravan can meet as noted in the earlier post ( Gilroy outlets @ Starbucks b/w 8:30 and 8:30). It would be great if you can let us know ( post ) if you're planning to do that, and also send me an email if you need my cell number in case you're running a bit late that day or what-not, so we don't leave without you..

See y'all in a couple of days..and really looking forward to seeing all the SoCal friends and fellow 968ers

Okay, so does the SoCal contingent want to eat at Jocko's on the way back? It's killer and well worth it but on a typical Saturday evening the wait could be an hour and a half without reservations. Does anyone want to go? If so I'll get reservations. Also, I'm in Santa Barbara. Does anyone want to meet up here so I can tag along?

I spoke to the body shop. They are waiting on a few parts which are expected to arrive tomorrow. Right now, the word is maybe tomorrow, but probably Monday.
