I went to the annual L.A. Auto Show again....
#1

it was that time of year again, and the L.A. Auto show was again up and running - i didn't bother to go on press days this year, and after last year's dismal showing, i almost didn't go at all - pretty much the same fare as last year, many manufacturers choosing not to show up, and a notable absence from ferrari - there were a few cars of interest though:

finally in a convertible

a welcome return

much better in a ragtop form

looks just as fast as the old one did, even sitting still

who cares if it leaks? this just looks insane

ayn's new ride? (i made the mistake of getting her behind the ropes into the restricted area)

not to forget porsche, though there wasn't much to see there, here is one for those of you who just gotta go green (how wrong is this though?)

and here is an accumulation of all of the mistakes of the years gone by (i have no idea what the heck they were thinking)

I heard somewhere Porsche was unveiling a new mid engined car, but I couldn't find anything online. I guess not?

nope - in fact, what they did show was the spyder with some of the removed things added back in - seems they goofed in their estimations of interest - not surprising since they missed the mark on a stripped down car - they just didn't go far enough - that car should have been at least another 300lbs lighter

Went Sunday - couldn't MOVE in the Porsche booth, let alone see any of the cars! The multiple new Lotus's (Loti?) did indeed look tasty. And I agree with you, Flash. The Camaro convertible does look nice.

Is it the mock-up of the new Esprit? Esprit's have always been among my favorite cars. A neighbor of mine has a late 80's, the last year of the carbureted turbo 4's, I believe. Very nice car, and the new one (if that's what it is) does a great job of bringing the design into the 21st century.

Saw an R8 convertible on the road. It really surprised me. I don't really like the fat TT look of the R8, and I hate the side blades. For the convertible they lost the blades and it looks really, really good when it's moving.

Is Ayn in a DB9? I think the DB9 / DBS is the most attractive design among all cars. I know Dan has mentioned it before also. The exterior design of these cars is simply excellent.

I also like the look of the convertible R8, and agree that the side blades on the hardtop look hideous - what were they thinking?

she really liked the N420, as did i - i think we are going to wait until we move into the new house though - i don't really want to add another new car before that - she'll just have to live with the SL550 until then

I never cared for the contrasting color side blades on the R 8 either, but you can have the entire car monochrome as an option ( probably another $ 10k for that.. ), but I really always like the looks of it otherwise, in coupe, or even the new cab - especially when moving

hate the grill - hate the transmission - not fond of the platform

but almost tolerable as a ragtop

just goes to show you that even the most heinous of cars can be ok as a ragtop

agree on the front grill..I hate that one as well, but that might be the only thing I dislike about the car, I think the rest is pretty awesome.

and no, nothing looks better in a rag top. that's why they call it a rag !

btw, what's wrong with the R8 transmission ?!

lol - almost everything looks better topless

as a rule, i'm not fond of automatics in a toy, especially one with so much power and set up to be a super fast exotic, and that one has a goofy shifter to boot - i don't care that it probably can outshift me, i just have a problem with the concept - that is probably what will swing me from a 360 to a 355
