i'll be talking to the fiberglass guy again this morning and will see where we are on the rework.



i've been watching the project on the "other site". all the nice fabrication work and all aside, i am surprised that nobody has noted, or at least has not commented on, the fact that the entire project missed the mark from a functional standpoint, as the headlights are rotated about 10 degrees. this would make the beam pattern all wrong. lol - it does help to keep the fender profile down though. it would also help with reading street signs as you pass them.



this is exactly what is the primary problem with fitting these lights. in order to get them in the right spot, and have the beams pointed correctly, the top of the fender need to go up quite a bit, making it look a lot more like a 993 (go figure).



the other issue is the need to hack up the sheet metal behind the lights in order to get the assembly in there at all, but that's a whole different oprah.

I still haven't gotten an answer to my question about the aiming of the lights from the guy on R.L. who did the recent headlight conversion, which is kind of odd, because he seems to be a pretty forthcoming guy who isn't afraid to engage in spirited debate. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that my question got buried in all the other responses, all of which are highly complimentary. If he doesn't answer in a few days, I'll repeat the question, as it's obviously a very important one for anyone considering a conversion like this.

lol - re: oprah - the idea of having to cut sheet metal on the car would drive some people nuts. that's a conversation that needs to be had with a good single malt in hand



re: aiming - not surprised. not sure he ever noticed, and if he did, he might not like the idea that the entire project might have been for naught. been there done that myself though. there have been a few very expensive and time consuming projects that in the end were a complete waste of time and money, as they did not work out like i had hoped.

allen is local and i should see those headlights in the next few weeks.



for one - he is just using the front lenses and retrofitted some different projectors into them - they are not a direct factory part.

for two - i believe he shaved down the bottom side of the headlight opening to create a little extra clearance as well. internet is too slow to go through his thread again, but i think he mentioned that in one of the posts.

i realize he shaved the bottom. the same thing has been done to the fiberglass fenders.



i went back and checked, and he said he is running the OEM xenon lamps (it's on page 13, post #183). he was commenting on what others had done when talking about only using the lens and not the entire assembly.



he did right in choosing the entire assembly. the lens is specifically designed to create a beam pattern. you can't be off by more than a millimeter before the pattern goes wonky. using the whole thing prevents that, but it still requires proper orientation in all directions if you want the beam projection pattern to be right.
